    Hey guys.
I haven’t built a rod in a couple years. I’d like to build a couple 8’ rods that my girlfriend and I could use for throwing the occasional jig and use as a 30lb fly line stick. Originally I was l considering a UC blank and may still go that way, but now I think I might like to go with a Rainshadow or Calstar. Looking for recommendations. Thanks

Matt's RCLB80ML from Batson is a good suggestion.

I really like the a Rainshadow blanks and have built several rods on them. Definitely have the RCLB 80m at the top of the list now. Thank you guys.
One thing should have posted originally was...
What about cutting a foot off the bottom of
    a Calstar 90J ?

Plenty of good blank options right off the rack to consider, rather than chopping a different one down IMHO.
Also some other ones to check out:
    Calstar 800m
    UC RCEmega or monster

    Calstar Graphiter 800M 15-40#

If that is too light, you could bump up to a 30-60#

Where are you at? Island Tackle in Carson has most all of the Rainshadow line of RCLB and RCJB blanks as well as a ton of UC, Seeker, Calstar, Phenix and I’m sure some others I’m missing as well.

Maybe check with the Rod Building class guys, likely they might be able to let you pull on some finished rods and blanks.
