    God bless the weekend fisherboy.
Not a fisherman until you have crossed the 00 had your head shaved and hazed by the crew and a dollar bill to prove it.
Missed Christmas 7 years in a row to make a living for my family as my father and his before him and his before him .Feeding the masses.Commercial fisherman are studs they put there lives on the line every day so you can enjoy a can of tuna.
God bless the men that have suffered so we can enjoy the fruits of the sea.

Same here, its beyond frustrating seeing how much damage these seiners impact our local yft fishery. It makes absolutely no economic sense, recs bring in 10x the amount of revenue the commercials do for the community. Every year they come in and F it up for everybody. Its high time we got organized to do something about it.

Been on this rock we call home just shy of 50yrs.

In that time frame, the three largest schools of bluefin tuna I have ever seen were wrapped in front of me in one day. This happened about 6 weeks ago 10 miles west of the 182.

I'm talking football field sized schools and 200+lb BFT. It was truly disheartening to witness up close.

That same day I saw no more than 6 bluefin tuna caught by private Boats off those same three schools.

Between that and what I've witnessed South of the Border in the last couple years has truly made me cynical regarding Seiners.

There is no quota for yellowfin tuna. As long as they are densely schooled they will wrap them. When they are in small scattered schools they will not wrap them. It's a crying shame. I remember watching them wrap 500 tons in less than a week in the Lee of Clemente. They literally got the entire school that the recreational fleet had been fishing all summer.

Commercial fishing is raping the ocean!!

The nicer grade BFT is likely shipped to our friends across the Pacific (same folks who kill and eat dolphin after depleting the tuna fisheries in their own backyard - Taiji Cove). The smaller grade tuna likely becomes Purina cat chow.

    Fricking sad beyond belief...

Wtf, that is sickening. Thought the US has a 50 mt limit on Bluefin , do they not ? It's even worse that there in no quota on YFT. With all the recs and sportboats in socal, theres no reason we can't do something about the seiners.

No quota on YFT this guy is exactly spot on like a Dalmatian. We can all bitch about it, but will we eventually do anything about it? I'm gonna start voting on local government and maybe one of these assholes will move our concerns up the chain. This is absolutely ridiculous.

Edited: Due to offensive language because I may offend others. Just getting sick and tired of this shit though man....

Be careful what U wish for.....if seining is limited here in US waters and something is done about it, I can't imagine the bitching that'll occur when there's a quota on bait.....and you gotta catch your own bait!!!! Lot of things go hand in hand.....I can live with the lesser of 2 evils.

There are alternative catching and more sustainable methods than seining any pelagic tuna species, it is just the easiest and most profitable for the few stakeholders in that business.

Has nothing to do with seining chovies or sardines which are more homegrown and managed in any entirely different way, but seining any species when they are in full spawn is a joke on everyone who comes in contact with that resource. You might have to learn how to use a cast net someday, big deal.

Feel free to enjoy 6th grade now.

Oh you must be in the only trade invented that has worked on holidays to make a living, poor commercial fishing boy.

I love the Pedro tuna seiner owners who cry poor, drive the shabby truck to work, dress like an orphan and live on the hill in a extremely nice house with the Benz and Jag out of sight. It is so tough. And if they have been at it long enough, abused the shit out of the resource until the government stepped in to regulate them, dumping their trash and oil changes at sea while no one is looking and let's not forget about that dolphin bycatch that was hidden from the public until regulation forced them to change their fishing methods. All for canned tuna. I'll take mine troll caught today, now that is something I can admire.

God bless the man who respects the sea and all that it provides for us.
