absolutely sold on the Penn fathom 2 speeds, smooth dragsLeft Dana Point around 4:30am and planned on working the ridge from 43 to SCI. Never made it to the 43 before we started finding fish. Bluefin were being finicky and the first couple schools didn’t eat anything we threw at them to include poppers, colt snipers, flat falls, and irons. Finally found a foamer of big ones that wanted to eat the popper. After a few blowups I finally got one to stick. Roughly 2.5+ hours later on a Penn Fathom 25 NLD2 I got him to the boat. Came up foul hooked in the side which made it hard to get him to come up from the death spirals, thought he was hooked in the mouth first but who knows. Not really sure how much it weighs but a PB for me.
While cleaning up that fish we had schools of yellowfin around the boat that were skittish but managed 1/2 on popper and coltsnipers. Had enough meat and made the run back around noon.
All in all the bluefin were picky and only a couple schools wanted to bite, yellowfin were boat shy but if you can get a popper in range they’ll probably eat it. Got too distracted to really look at the water temp but the water was off colorView attachment 1044833 View attachment 1044836View attachment 1044837 View attachment 1044835

Talk about getting the job done, appears that the reel delivered with the help of some great angling.
Well done, she's a beast.
