Offshore 7/3 - full moon almost bluefin bust

After Thursday’s epic trip we were anxious to go again but skeptical because of the full moon and figured the weekend crowds would turn the fish off and wipe out any chance of getting decent bait.

But… I watched people still smack the fish good thru the weekend and my dad missed out on the wide open day so we decided to go yesterday to try to get some more tuna onboard.

We had better bait than expected… but had a hard time connecting.

Tuna are close to home (canyon area)… getting them under your boat and ready to bite isnt as easy. We never found “the meat” under the boat and am grateful for the ONE bite we got from bluefin… a nice one too. Fun on 30lb fly line

Kept it to a shorter day and hit some killer deep water rocks we had to bring home some fish tacos fixins to go with the poke.

Home by 4 to make dinner for my girls with some poke and toro.

I’ve had worst days.

Poke Recipe/Ingredients (start off mellow on the sauces and add accordingly to your own liking)
- Soy Sauce
- Sesame Oil
- Chili Garlic Crunch Sauce (this is KEY ingredient)
- Sriracha
- Green Onion
- Cilantro
- Jalapeno
- Sesame Seeds (I was out but like adding when I have em)
- Optional - thin sliced red onion for more crunch

Enjoy! Its a winner....

I use furikake rice seasoning, salt, scallions, hot sesame, soy and capelin roe (masago) and of course tuna. Just got back from Hawaii and they use 1/2 sweet onion, 1/2 scallions which adds a nice flavor. They use Hawaiian seaweed in place of the furikake.

Masago and 🔥 hot sesame oil are my key ingredients.
Will def try some of your suggestions...
