We took the past couple of weeks off from fishing due to having a bad trip a couple of weeks ago. We ended up breaking leader on 4 ahi all right next to the boat all in the 200lb range. I still have the bad video to remember it by. I might post just so everyone can see what no to do .

On saturday we started our day off a little on the late side since i over slept. We ended up leaving Koolina at 9am and headed to where we heard the ahi were coming up at. We get to Nanakuli Valley and start working the area. We see alot of boats on the outside working the 1000 but no one was stopping. We decide to keep working the 500 and see if we can get a lucky 1 in the blind.

We get no love on the 500 so we decide to run in a little more to see if we can find something. We just get on the 250 when the short corner comes down and starts ripping line. I put my gf on the reel and i start to handline. After about 30min i tell my dad this thing must be a beast cause im having a hard time. After 1 hour with a back and fourth battle we ended up putting a 44 in his head followed by two gaffs. Get the fish on the boat and realize why it was such a hard fight. Looked like the double hook caught him shallow on the corner lip and ripped off and snagged him on the side of the body.

Fish was 157lbs g&g. He ended up biting a 7" Kamaboko purp blue/ orange yellow white. His belly was full with about 3lbs of shrimp. This was the hardest fighting ahi i have ever caught. I will be sure not to forget how lucky we were to get him in the boat.

Sorry no video this week since someone forgot to turn the camera back on. No names A_ _ B.

Sorry about the trip before, but at least you can admit it. What pound leader were you using? Oh well that's one hell of a redemption fish. Good work, you have been killing the ahi this year!

Right on Nick. Congratulations. Da Morris Lures Kamaboku is a winner. We never had an ahi on it yet, but the Otaru have been loving it.

I bought a couple Kamaboku bullets from Nick a while ago and "borrowed" the exact colors he had used in one of his Ahi videos. I have run it a few times now and have caught a big Blue Marlin, a Stripey and a Spearfish. During this time the "marlin" lures in the pattern get nothing...it is a pretty versatile lure for sure.

Congratulations to Nick on yet another nice YFT.
