That is it! We could not take it anymore when people keep posting their big catch Bluefin at our backyard. So we decided to take our chance. Launched and left Dana Point at 3:30 am, took us more than 2 hours to catch some mackerel for bait when they was not biting Sabiki but fresh cut only. Got to 209 fast on Luan's fresh 263 Grady White CC with a pair of 225 Yamaha. There were a lot of baits and birds at the area, also boats. We decided to go to find our own fish, left 209 head 181. The 181 wasn't active like 209, no bait and bird. Our captain of the day, Kong noted a small tiny red dot on a screen and called it Bonito when I asked him what it was. We put down our slow troll rods with Macks, and the tiny red dot moved up the line from 200 feet just like what we saw in Wicked Tuna. Bam, game on and Luan landed it easily in 10 min with the right gear 30 Accurate and a 2X4, 100+ lbs for sure. Another 2 hours of searching the same area 181, captain Kong found another tiny red dot and same story. This time it took us 55 minutes on Okuma Andros 16ii w/ phenix hybrid 40-100. Turn out a bigger one, 150 lbs estimated. We called it a day at 2:00 pm when no boat around and the weather was up 10+ feet swell and white cap. Get out there and catch them when they are still here. Good luck!
