Went out yesterday, launched out of Oceanside. We were having a good morning with a nice dorado, a few yellowtail, and a bluefin off a paddy we had all to ourselves. Decided to make a move and spotted two nice sized patties fairly close together. My buddy threw a bait out and gets bit after seeing big boils, he gets spooled on his torium 16 and had to break the fish off. My other buddy throws out with 50 lb and hooks up. Drag is screaming again.... POP, reels in and finds his hook is straightened out. (Light wire, no Bueno) I grabbed the trolling setup with a torium 50 wide and 80 lb, tie on a 2/0 circle pin on a sardine that looks lively and let it fly. Just figured...well if I get bit by the right kind I at least want to have a chance. Three weeks ago we had a huge one hooked on the wrong gear, lost it after four hours! Not this time, no way. Anyway, got bit and it was on! Knew it was a toad, got it to the boat twice just to watch it take all that line I gained right back. Finally got it to the boat and my buddies sank the gaff and not so gracefully pulled that beast into the boat. For lack of better words.... We went ape shit, yelling and screaming. Felt so good especially after our heartbreak a few weeks ago. Anyway hope you enjoy the pics. We weighed it in Oceanside harbor on that slide scale. Don't know how accurate it is but it was just shy of 185lbs. on that scale. Either way it's a beast of a blue fin and I'm stoked we got it.... It was a team effort, thanks Barry and Ben!
