My good buddy Tim, my son, and I decided to make a really long run out to try our luck at the Big Bluefin Sat to Sun in his boat the Topshot ! He was getting his interior redone so boat was stripped down like a Pole dancer in Vegas. We put a few big ice chests loaded with ice butt load of gear and lots of gas cans to make the long run out to the 60 mile bank ! Weather was nice but seas were rough on the outside that's for sure so slow going to say the least. Water temp was around 63-64 degrees. There was no one out there at all saw no signs of life on the 60 so plan B was to run to the Butterfly area ...heard a few fish caught out there so off we went. Hit the West end of the Butterfly and saw a few birds working and headed that way. 100 yards before reaching the birds ZZZ we get picked up on the Cedar plug. My son reels it in buddy Tim sinks the gaff and a nice 35lbs Bluefin on the deck and skunk is off the boat !! We slowly move to where the birds are still working ..kill the motor and drift with live dines. Fish are smaller grade so we drop down to 30lbs and #3 circle hooks and game over after about an hour just drifting. Fish would just come through every 10 mins or so and you would get doubles. Limits on the smaller grade Bluefin 20-35lbs. Called in Limey and a few other boats to get theirs and off we went back to the barn. Great day for us !! I'll post a few pics later when I get a chance !! Tight lines !!
