I took my neighbor Doug fishing at the shoe on 6/6. It was breezy at 0415 at the ramp. Oh boy! So much for the SW 5-10 wind forecast.

Anyways, in one of the toughest days this year, we hit a zillion spots around the shoe for 20 assorted fish, 50/50 bass/bycatch. Bycatch were a couple big sculpin, a ling, a cabazon, a whitefish and a few rockfish. That’s quite the variety for such a slow day. We toughed it out till 1:30 then threw in the towel.

Most fish were caught on the Kman special swimbaits, and as is usual when the fishing is tough, they bit the clown leadheads over the red ones.

This was my first trip since installing a new SS175HW transducer. Thanks for the assist Steve. The ducer gives a WAY more detailed picture beneath the boat than the 3 in 1. Pictured below are shots of the MFD doing a sonar split screen with the 175HW on top and the 3 in 1 on the bottom. Another pic shows me dropping a double trouble (2 swimbaits) onto some fish. You can see the two baits. The new ducer also has way less noise under way than the transom mount, which will be great come tuna season.

So anyways, we didn’t sink the boat or get arrested or towed. Fishing was tough in 2’ wind waves (hell, just standing was tough), but it was great to get my boat wet.

Yea it was a bit rough in my 16 foot skiff. We got to the shoe around 6 and we’re only out there for about an hour before we said screw it. Made a tank of smelt inside the break wall and fished for halibut for a couple hours. No butts but we caught some decent bass. Better than a sharp stick in the eye

Kman, thanks for the report. Love the graph pics. Looks like the ducer's performing well. I'm curious, how big of a hole did you have to cut to install it? Looks huge! We fished fri for taco meat. Ended up with limits of rockfish and sculpin. Also had a successful release of a approximately 20lb cow cod.

Hole for that ducer is 3.75”. Measure 5 times, cut once.

Wow, that's a big hole! Mine was 1in. Must be one hell of a ducer.

    It's a 3 3/4" or 3 7/8

I did 3 3/4” then had to grind on the hole a bit to get the ducer to slide in.
I couldn't remember exactly, I just installed mine end of last year. It's a bit of a puker up moment when you drill that big of a hole in your boat
