    Hey guys,

Jumped on the Pursuit this morning with 45 of my fellow fishing buddies. Capt John was driving. Gus and his little Bro were on deck. Ryan cooking up the grub. We had a full tank of live squid and another one of 5" sardines. Hit the rack and soon enough we were at the rock.
    20190624_082746.jpg
We pulled up to the first spot and I threw out a squid and leadhead. Less than two minutes and I was bit ! Put the reel in gear , came tight , and got straight smoked ! Was fishing 30lb flouro to 50lb spectra (Phenix BD 909H/Pro gear V20) and was never able to stop the fish on his way to the kelp. He soon was deep in and broke me off. We got a few more bites and landed a couple of nice sized yellows before moving off. 20190624_104255.jpg At the next spot, the yellows decided that they liked the sardines better and we landed a few smaller fish (5-10lbs). I flylined a dine on 25lb flouro to 50lb spectra ( Phenix abyss 909h/Lexa 400). I soon get picked up and . . . Straight smoked again ! Tight drag, my thumb green from the spectra, and I still couldn't stop that fish. Yellows 2- me 0 ! We landed a few more fish with some 15lb models coming aboard. Think we had about a dozen before the next spot. On the way to the nex spot John said to fish the squid again. I switched out my flouro on my lexa to 30lb and tossed out my squid on a 1/4 oz lead head. The fish started to come through with several hookups and fish landed. Nicer models (20lb stuff) I get hooked up again and pull super hard on the fish. I get a couple of cranks in and start feeling good when he gets a head of steam and heads to the kelp. I feel the weeds tickling my line again. Noooooo! Stuck again ! I pull a little harder and feel him coming out. Everyone is rooting for me as I dumped two already. I feel a couple of pops and see some salad float to the top of the water as my fish starts coming in. Soon he is in the boat and I'm on the board. Whew. I'm feeling lucky I didn't lose 3 fish in a row. 20190624_164636.jpg 20190624_164724.jpg 20190624_151820.jpg 20190624_154004.jpg
The fish started to blow up around the boat as well and although we were catching fish, it was much more show than go before we cruised up to the final spot for the day. 20190624_143256.jpg 20190624_142829.jpg 20190624_142729.jpg
For the final spot. I switched my leadhead over to my progear for more cranking power and tossed it out. The yellows didn't disappoint and they flashed through with about 5 hook ups at a time. These were again the nicer fish ! I hooked up another on and as we were in a deeper water spot, he behaved nicely and I got him to the boat with a minimum of fuss. 20190624_164240.jpg
They kept coming through and folks were getting some nice fish. 20190624_163248.jpg 20190624_163354.jpg 20190624_164940.jpg
I hooked up again and handed it off to this kid on the boat who hadn't gotten bit yet. 20190624_155202.jpg
It was his first yellow and this was a nice fish ! Gus stayed with him the whole time as the fish gave the kid a run for his money ! 20190624_155524.jpg
He got him though and was super stoked !

I believe that this was one of the last fish caught before we headed home with smiles on our faces. I believe we had around 35 fish but don't quote me on it. Conditions at the island were nice. Minimal swell with cool/cloudy conditions. Fish were from about 5-25+lbs with the majority being the nicer fish. If I was going out tomorrow, I would fish my squid on 40lb and dines on 30lb. The fish pulled hard for the structure and we lost several. However, the hot stick caught 5 (3 smaller models) and he was fishing 25lb so what do I know? Capt and crew was great as has always been the case when I've fished with them. 45 is more peeps than I like but it actually didn't fish that bad which is more of a reflection of the folks and not the number. Anyway there you have it. 20190624_162353.jpg 20190624_160413.jpg 20190624_161608.jpg 20190624_161748.jpg 20190624_160401.jpg 20190624_161352.jpg 20190624_161537.jpg
THE HOT STICK ! He credits his success to "MODELOVISION" 20190624_161529.jpg
    Thanks for the spike Matt86m ! 20190624_164456.jpg
On a more somber note . . . One of our regular guys was robbed at gunpoint in the parking lot across the street this morning before the trip. We'd all like to think that we are being aware of our surrounding but if it can happen to him, it can happen to any one of us so be careful out there guys.

    Take care !

Nice report and good on you for the handoff. Sounds like the fishing was way better than the numbers show.

Rad report with lots of pics! Well done. Super cool on the hand off too, karma will be coming your way.

That's scary af about the robbing though. Did he take his fishing gear or just want his cash/wallet?
