Left dana landing dock at about 08:30 headed over to the bait receiver loaded up with a full scoop for $45 (+ tip) we usually get a half scoop and headed out to the rock pile 2.5 miles west of La Jolla. We chased birds in pursuit of yellows and trolled a Dtx minnow at 30’ and a rapala at 40’ after no success then after We dropped live bait and a piece of squid with a dropper loop and I was using a 6oz weight. Took a while to get bit as we were trying to find the best drift. After about the second reset we got hooked up on a Boccaccio the wind was light at about 5 knots the swell was 2-3 feet with about an 8 sec period not too bad for my 18’ skiff we were fishing at 180-230’. A couple passes later I caught what looks like a vermilion rockfish. The bite slowed and we moved close to La Jolla into shallower water at 80’ many small rock fish and various others the swell picked up later in the day and we came in and drifted the channel into mission caught a sandy then called it a day.
