Fished the Liberty on Friday with 34 other ppl. Bluefin where 60-80, one straggler at 30lbs. It was about 3 hr boat ride until we started fishing, which isn’t bad at all. Fished within site of the Nados, everyone was in the same area. Long drifts with the same school or different schools coming under us at different times The boat ended up with with 23 fish.
The bait was good, not great. All techniques worked and watching blow ups on the double trouble is always fun.
I was definitely not the most experienced fisherman on the boat, a lot of talented fishermen. I saw Gavin put on a clinic hooking 5-6 fish, flylining #60 and throwing a chrome/glow Tady or Sumo. Also watched a guy land a 80+ fish on a LM9 and P229. I was in pain watching the fight.
I was blessed to get a quick limit in the morning, went 2/3 on FF #50 leader, 160 gr sardine with upgraded hooks. Setup was GUSA 80monster and fathom 40N. Tried other techniques in the pm for no love.

Tip: ALL techniques worked, pick your strong suit and keep at it all day and you will be rewarded. Most guys changing between techniques were having a harder time getting bit. The ones sticking with one technique got rewarded big time.

Thanks for the report. Nice fish!

Was Gavin fishing the glow Tady deep or smoking it on the surface?

    Any sinker fish?

Yes but I used if for 3-4 minutes per fish, made the mistake of going to low too soon on the third fish which came to the surface and shook the hook because I couldn’t stay connected on low gear.
