o DARK 30 LEFT SAN DIEGO! No line for the bait! Big deans not so strong! Ran out to the corner seeing lots of Bonita Tuna! They didn't want to eat are deans or irons. only to get a couple on the troll. A few patty's had some small yellows on them. Got picked up on a new flat fall on a patty for about 1 minute then gone. Cut my hooks clean off! Maybe a Mako shark as we did see 3 of them! Wahoo? Trolled around for a while. Still seeing lots of Bones all over! Some were over 12#. Stopped on the high spot to get some good eats! Looks like the BFT have gone west! Slow day for all. What a great weather day!
Go get them!

Nice try and report. Good eats on the reds bonita not so much.

I have found two ways to enjoy them: first, if they are bled immediately--but be careful if you are thinking of hanging them over the side to bleed--seals. Second, if they are smoked--and with a home smoker, you don't need a ton of salt, that basically ruins them IMO.

Has anybody ever eat the eggs in the Bonita? I hear there are a delicacy! Maybe try some in some soup!

Nice report! Just remeber that bonito being tuna fall under the same restrictions as bluefin and yft for filleting out on the water.

I feel bad for anyone who says Bonita taste bad. They are better than YFT. You just have to treat the meat with respect and do it hastily.

Bleed immediately and on ice within 5 minutes. While filleting, keep icing the fillets you're not working on in saltwater slush. Never let them lose their chill and never let them touch tap water.

BOOM. My favorite local pelagic besides bluefin!

Bonita are probably technically Tuna. But not the kind everyone wants. So, Tuna EVERYWHERE, might be a little misleading.
However, bleed them IMMEDIATELY, chill them, and make good fare on the grill.
White meat and good.
