Went out yesterday on the Freelance. I was happy we headed straight to Cat in hopes of finding the bonito schools and maybe a yellow or white. We stopped by Avalon and bought some squid end headed to the spot. We started on the back side maybe towards the middle of the island (I don't knot the backside all that well) to look for some yellowtail. Captain Rusty saw marks but there were no biters just some smaller bottom fish mostly (blue perch and stuff). Stayed there for a while because some folks were enjoying filling their bags with perch. We then went around the quarry side and tried a couple drifts and then up more towards the camps and anchored. The fish just weren't really happening besides some small bottom fish and mackerel. A couple decent sheepshead. I actually got the skunk yesterday because I was sticking it out gamefish because I can fish shallow water bottom fish anytime on my kayak. Not a total loss- some folks got some tasty smaller bottom fare and a couple nicer sheeps. It was a beautiful day out on the water and always nice seeing the island looking so green.
