So the last time we (wife and I) went (a month ago) we wrestled with that marlin for better than an hour before pulling hook(s). She had Monday off so when the wife has a day off (doesn't happen too much) what do ya do???

Left the house around 2:30 on the water by 4ish and had the hardest time finding any Akule. Got some but had to work pretty hard. Being determined to get our first scissor lipped critter in the boat headed up to the ledge BUT AGAIN no one home, at least not for us.

Gave that some time and then leisurely headed outside; hangin' in the tower see a few birds off on the horizon, " hey Nerlie come on up". A few hundred yards from the birds the stbd rigger goes, get down on the deck, clearing lines, can see a decent Nairagi trying to free itself. Eventually successful (at freeing itself) I look back and can see the water is quite disturbed behind the port rigger. Yell up at Nerlie (still in the tower) to let her know what's going on; she obviously has a better vantage point than from where I am at. Finally (it took at least 15 seconds so Nerlie got to see some pretty cool stuff) that fish is successful at getting the lure; lines cleared, fish in the boat. Check out that very fresh and damaging Cookie Cutter Shark bite (could see internal organs). Hey G that's one of your 7"rs.

Had some other bites (mahi and stripeys) but we got our sashimi to share with family and friends.

    Cheers
    Pat

Pat nice write up once again and nice photo too. i was wondering how wide or what is the beam width on your boat? In the picture of you holding the fish it seems very wide and if so then that must mean it is very stable. I'm guessing maybe 10 feet wide? At any rate its a beautiful boat. The water looked flat ....I should've called in sick and went fishing also...cheers!

    Aloha,

    Brian

Another nice fish, Pat! And a wife that goes fishing with you and knows what to do is a pretty good catch too. Mine is my best catch, but she came without sea legs ;). Way to go; keep up the good work catching and posting.

    Hi Pat,
Nice looking stripey you got there! Congrats on a fishing trip that brings home something to eat and got to spend quality tme with the most important person in your life! Come to think of it I haven't seen a pic of your wife yet...love to see your better half that loves fishing. My wife used to go fishing with me before we had our daughter but has since found other things more important( our daughter)!

Jerry, yea I know the water was rather flat, 5-6 miles SE of there was a significantly different story. Thanks.

Thanks G and thanks for the fish killer.

Thanks Deliman and the SMU team, she has always been pretty fishy when she gets on the boat.

Thanks Todd I agree with you.

    Thanks Stoney.

    Thanks Bob.

Thanks Capt Don, I feel very lucky and fortunate.

    Thanks Jimmy

    Thanks Dean.

    Thanks Nick.

Thanks Joe, Kathy knows the answer, no banker's hours that day.

Thanks Brian, the beam is 12', she is a tank at 18,000#'s, the boat that is. Stable yes but in a BIG beam sea she'll lay over for sure (deep-V), spooky in the tower, on the deck it's fine.

    Thanks Cortland.

    Thanks Brandon.

Thanks Russ, I've been trying to get her in the pics for years, she's all about the fishing and the boat, not kean on being in pics. I'm still working on her. If you remember one of AJ's post from years ago, his buddy was completely covered up including the face to protect himself from the sun, I think he referred to him as the Ninja Fisherman; anyway Nerlie has the same M.O..

    Aloha
    Pat
