Two friends and I launched out of Dana Point at around 0700 in search of WSB, with the reports out of Cat and the full moon it seemed like as good an idea as any. We picked up a ½ scoop of lively 5-7 inch sardines from the bait barge and made our way out if the harbor. The day was overcast and cool, but the water was calm with minimal swell and just a slight breeze out of the south. The water was 58.5 to 60 degrees and green .We headed south towards San Mateo rock and started to drift the kelp looking for signs of life. First cast I landed a nice keeper calico (released) on a red and clear big hammer with a red lead masters weedless head. A few seconds later one of my buddies hooked up a keeper sand bass on a strip of dropper looped squid, It looked like we were in for a day! We in fact were not… we kept at that spot for another half an hour with no bites and decided to move on. We sabikid some mid sized macks and slow trolled the kelp line looking for a spot that might produce a grey ghost. We found a spot with bait breaking the surface and anchored up to no avail. We caught several more keeper sized calicos and sand bass on swim baits and colt snipers. We tried several more promising spots but no luck. Headed in around 2. Beautiful day on the water with friends. Good luck out there!

Biting bass is always a fun day. Catching anything while targeting the Ghost breaks the monotony.
Fished Newport today. Water was BROWN. Furthest south I could go before the MLPA turned blue/green and gave out some nice surface fishing for bass. Good to hear the water in DP isn't brown like it is just a bit north.

Thanks for the fish report, and thanks for your service to our country. You deserve the G.I. Bill, you earned it. That's how I got my college education many years ago.

As soon as the water cleans up and up a few more degrees, the popcorn will start to pop.
Thanks for the report and your service!
