Left Koolina at 6 and headed straight out with Capt Ahab me and one of my dads friends thats never been fishing before. Right outside the 1000 we find our first open school of Mahi. Put my dads friend on the pole and he gets his first Mahi ever.

We were able to take 4 out of the school before the birds broke up.

Start heading more out and we come across a giant Aku pile with 10-12lb size Aku. My dad asks me you want to break down and catch Aku or do you want to go out and chase the dream. I told him screw it lets chase haha. Get outside and I start to regret not murdering the Aku until we come across another open school of Mahi. Ended up taking 2 Mahi out of the pile. Once we lost 2 of them that was, it the pile was gone so it was time to look for another pile.

Sliding down to Kaena point direction on the outside we come across a Aku pile with small 2-3lb Aku. Get right by the pile and take a double Marlin only to have both of them throw the hook within the first 30seconds. Play the pile a little longer with no action so we decide to move on. My dads friend says how he wants to catch a Marlin and how awesome it would be. About 30min after that he gets his wish. We get 2 Short bills come in and knock down a couple lines when 1 of them get stuck. He fights it for a little while then we end up boating a nice 45lb short bill.

Also his first Marlin. I told him after that now you should ask to catch a Ahi. Haha

Continue our hunt on the outside and find a couple more open schools of Mahi. In total we were able to get 9 Mahi, 1 Short Bill, 3 Aku, and small Shibi. We lost about 5 Mahi and 3 Marlin. Ended up being a action packed day.

    Nick,

Thanks for the cool pics and the detailed write-up. Your dad's friend got his first Mahi, first Marlin, first Shibi and first Aku on his first trip! Awesome memories for him for the rest of his life gauranteed. Glad you guys took someone out and showed them why we fisherman are so pashionate. It took me four trips on my own boat to catch one small Aku....Lol! Great day.

    Nick, Capt Ahab and crew,

Good going on an action packed day; fun for sure with plenty more hits than misses. Pretty special to have that much action and pretty much a non bumpy ride. Charge the battery next time, 2 weeks in a row.

    Cheers
    Pat

Nice catch! Is that the secret, need to have my crew say, "I've never caught an ahi before, I'd really like to get one."

Sounds like an awesome day. Don't worry about not posting a video. We all know you were too busy scrubbing the blood and scales off the back deck.
