Fished yesterday with LJ, (Slider) caught one Dorado. Lots of fog, choppy and then calm, then choppy, foggy, clear then calm. Crazy conditions, went to the 312 and back to 209. Lots of big kelp paddies, all but one empty. I think 90 miles total? Incredible amounts of Red Tide and filthy water.
Got to within 4 miles of Dana Point, started dumping our fantastic Sardines, small and medium, lots of firecrackers. Very healthy.
Looked off in the distance and said what's that, holy shit, huge Bluefin schools everywhere you looked. Damn, we had dumped about 90% of our bait still had a dozen decent left. LJ slid up to one of the foamers, I grabbed my sixty pound outfit, but no bites. LJ hooked up immediately on 25 pound test, big tuna, 250 yards later, goodbye.
Did this for two hours, several times surrounded by BF, wouldn't bite the heavy line, LJ fished with 40, no luck, didn't see any purpose in throwing lighter line, I had 30LB? Some fish were in the 25 to 40 pound range when they leaped out of the water, then there were the big boys! Back at the dock at 4pm after we ran out of bait. LJ threw a Popper numerous times right in the middle of the foamers, never touched it?
Earlier in the day I got spooled on 20 pound, don't know the species, off a porpoise school?
Thanks LJ, so much fun to finally get out on the water! A wishing I was fishing more often. Can't fish Sport Boats anymore, can't stand at the rail more than a few minutes, need a private boat, so I can sit down often. A bitch getting old! Turned 76 last May and way too many health issues, with two very bad falls, and surgeries including open heart. All the best everyone!

Forgot to mention we started out in 62 degree water and ran 20 miles through 63 to 65 before it started rising. 69.8 at the 312, was 72 degrees at the 209, heading home, still 20 miles from Dana Point, it rose to 73, then 74 and 75 and finally 76.3 degrees. Unreal. The kelp I hooked the Do Do on was in the 76 degree dirty, filthy water. He had friends, but they sank out. Couldn't blame them, I wouldn't swim in that water either!
