Fished the 267 for one small firecracker yellowtail lots of fish but they didn't want to go. Used chunk bait on the one we got.
Up to the 14. 75 degree purple blue water with three purse seiners and a spotter plane making wraps on smaller grade YFT

Purse seining needs to go. Back during the gold rush days they used to use a method of mining called hydraulic. It reduced mountains to mud holes and did everybody in down stream. The seiners need to ply their methods at least a hundred miles offshore or quit that method of taking it all, including flipper, completely. I do not like long liners or trammel nets either. ....Ap

Been down 6 times this year already and I've seen them on every trip as well as the pens they hold the catch in.
Sad to see as a sport Fisherman.

Sure, but I wish they would change the law so I could use my own net and catch my own bait. Cast net that is...

Honestly I almost feel like if seiners are allowed, then I should be able to use dynamite.

You should do at least a little research yourself. Since your posting this kind of drivel here I know you have access to do it. I'll even make it easy for you with some links - assuming you can read.
    http://www.iattc.org/MonthlyReports/2017/201705MonthlyRpt.pdf
    http://www.westcoast.fisheries.noaa.gov/fisheries/migratory_species/bluefin_tuna_harvest_status.html
    https://nrm.dfg.ca.gov/FileHandler.ashx?DocumentID=145749&inline

Just an excerpt from the second link. As of May 19 2017 U.S commercial vessels have landed .6 mt (metric tons) of BFT. I'll even do the math for you. .6 mt = 1322.772 pound. I'll bet you I could look at the BFT catches just posted here on BD by private boaters and they would add up to more than that.
That seiner in the picture is a "local" boat that holds less than 100 ton. Quite possibly one that would be fishing sardine if that fishery was not closed this season. That guy is not getting rich by any stretch of the imagination. Judging by what sportboats and their spotter plane have been looking at so far this year those local boats, even if they loaded up every day, would not even be a drop in the bucket. The only thing that seiner is doing to the fishery is the same thing every sport boat does - make the fish skittish by running over them. Same thing that happens when you run up on a foamer in a skiff.
If the local seiners were doing something that was hurting the fishery is any kind of significant way I would be all over them. If you look at the reality of what is going on they are not.
Flame away - after you do some research and still think you have a valid argument.

If they git rid of the seiners, Screw the buying the bait and supporting the purse seiners, I would be more than happy to go make my own bait, It would br well worth it.

I will forgive you this time, .... for your condescending approach of what you feel is a edumication to us ignoramuses of which you are surrounded. I do not agree with the fragmented stats that you have provided in an effort to have the irreproachable word on the subject of seiners. This method of rape and pillage has decimated the worlds supply of school fish over the last decades of my lifetime. The longliners and trammel netters are just mop up. I feel you are way off the mark when you start comparing a guy with a fishing pole in his hand to a net boat. Poseidon has you on his short list ....Ap

Cast into their pens..... they don't own the fish or the ocean water within them until they are on their boat.... kinda like fishing the stocked trout ponds as a kid.

Never going to get to the bottom of whether seiners have a huge impact on our fisheries or not. Even if we did have solid unbiased data this would most likey continue. As far a screwing up recreational fishing locally, you would have to be a complete moron to deny this fact.

Don't even think about it morons!
