Lots of kelp fragments around 371 and the paddys were mostly small and weathersoaked. Heading N to 43 the paddys got larger. Must've stopped on 7-8 and only found 1 holding a rat YT. There were more YT under that one paddy, but a dog showed up and shut it down.

Found another paddy nearby and spotted a gray dorsal fin sticking up. Thought it was a mako, so I rigged up a steel leader and gave it a shot. Perfect cast right where it's nose should be, but as I drifted closer, I found this instead:

Trolled daisy chains and purple cedar plugs most of the way from 371 to 43 for no love except something mauled one of the cedar plugs and took a chunk out of it. No hookup though.

Max spent most of the trip checking out the bait tank.

Literally the same experience. Oceanside to SCI and back. All the paddy’s that should have been holding were not or had marks deep that didn’t want to play. Water is too cold 58-62. Sunfish everywhere, saw the same mako fin you did and then saw some of the sunfish jumping out of the water which I again mistook for a shark until I got up close and got a good look. SCI gave up all the bones you wanted, a short halibut and a few calicos. Will not be making that run again until 67 degree water shows up.
