The 2014 fishing season is right around the corner! The Mass Bay Guides Fleet will be splashing in about 30 days. During the first few weeks of April we will be running groundfish trips out to the pollock grounds. Thank you to those who have booked already! We do still have a couple of days available for early April.

Cod Season begins on April 16 and open dates for the final two weeks in April and most of May are becoming few and far between. If you would like to lock in a trip for some GREAT Spring time Cod and Haddock fishing do not hesitate to call us.

We offer MIXED PARTY THURSDAYs aboard one of our boats throughout the ENTIRE SEASON.

Final Winter Shows/Expos:
MBG will have booths at the following upcoming shows:
Mass Bass (Jungle Plex: Plymouth, MA) - March 8 & 9
New England Saltwater Fishing Show RISAA (Convention Center: Providence, RI) - March 28, 29, 30
- We will be holding a FREE RAFFLE for 2 spots aboard a mixed party trip
- Discounts on Squid Bars and other Custom Tackle. The same stuff that we use aboard our boats everyday.
- New Apparel for Sale!
- The Bruce Brothers, our Canadian partners, will be setup with us at the RISAA show

** We WILL NOT be holding our annual Saltwater Seminar this year due to scheduling conflicts and the tragic loss of our friend and MC Steve James (Boston Big Game Fishing Club).

Trip Rates:
$995 8hr Offshore Trip - Perfect for Springtime groundfishing when the runs are closer to shore
$1150(weekday)-$1250(Fri-Sun) 11hr Offshore Combo (our most popular trip!)

Species/Times:

Cod/Haddock/Pollock/Groundfish: April - October, BEST early Spring and Fall. Colder water
Bluefin Tuna: June - November, Last year was tough tuna fishing for everyone fishing Mass Bay and Stellwagen. We did manage to put a few big fish on the deck, but the school tuna were very scarce. We hope 2014 will be back to normal! MBG has put over 1,000 bluefin on the decks of ours boats since 2007.
Shark: July - September, But we have been catching a lot of porbeagle sharks in early Spring and Fall
Stripers/Bluefish: Late May - September

New News!

We want to announce that we are excited to have Captain Corey Carlson back working with us full time! Corey is now one of the new owners of the Fortuna, our 32' Glen Holland. You will be seeing him at the helm for the 2014 season and into the future!

We look forward to seeing you on an adventure of a lifetime this season!

Early Spring Report:

The groundfishing has been steadily getting better since the middle of April. Larger cod and haddock have moved in, and we have been getting limits regularly. The mackerel and schoolie striped bass are starting to filter into inshore waters and rivers; we should see some great light tackle fishing over the next few weeks straight through June.

The bluefin tuna season is less than 3 weeks away! We should start to see fish out East at the end of this month.

Check us out at www.massbayguides.com and on Facebook.

We will have some availability for this season.

Tight lines!

The striped bass are making their way inshore! We have had a couple of great light tackle trips on the North River already. The fish aren't huge yet, but there are a few small keepers in the mix (28"+). Lots of schoolie sized fish.

We are now booking NIGHT BASS TRIPS through June 15. Tues and Thurs only. We will suggest the best tides.
$400 for up to 4 people. 7pm-10pm

Inshore fishing continues to be stellar! We have had a couple of great evening flounder trips, many of them reaching our 6 person limit in just a couple of hours.

The inshore striped bass fishing continues to get better with fish in the 28"-35" class moving into the river. We should start to see large schools of fish off of P-Town very soon.

The ground fishing has still been steady. Plenty of cod and haddock around to fill the freezer with.

This Sunday (June 1) marks the start of our bluefin tuna season! All of the signs of life are out there; tons of whales, sand eels, mackerel. Much better whale life than last year so far. The water temps are right and there have been a couple of tuna sightings already. We are expecting this season to be much better than last!

We still have some availability in June. July and August are almost booked up, but there still are a couple good dates left.

Check us out or give us a call to book!

It's been a while since our last report, and we are deep into the season!

June and July provided us some of the BEST striped bass fishing we have seen in a while; with most fish averaging 20-30lbs! The waters off of the tip of Cape Cod were stacked with good sized bass. Bass fishing has slowed down quite a bit through August, but the bluefish have showed up in force. The striper fishing should get another shot in the arm come September and early October.

Shark fishing and groundfishing (Cod, Haddock, Pollock) have been VERY good the last couple of weeks. We have been getting multiple blue shark releases each day, with a shot at another species, on average; about every other trip (Porbeagles and Makos). Groundfish/Shark combo trips are a great way to have fun fishing; put nice meat in the cooler and pull on a big fish.

Tuna fishing has been slow to say the least. We have the feed and life, just no large schools of fish staying inshore (Stellwagen, MA Bay, Peaked Hill). Some schools of mixed sized fish have moved through a few times, but have not stayed on the feed. We did manage to pick 2 fish up last week; one market fish 77" and one school fish 65". Both on the troll. We have been unfortunate a couple of other days fishing bait, losing a couple of fish in the anchor. We hope to see a good body of fish move in in the coming weeks...at the very least, move into the whiting grounds come September/October.

There is still plenty of season left to come aboard one of our boats for a great trip!

We have some availability in Sept/October/November. August is pretty much booked solid.

Tight lines,
-Bryan and MBG
