Looks like I’m going to be able to get away for a birthday trip, 2.5 day on the Vagabond May 13-16. Because I’m coming down from Reno for this trip, I’ll only be bringing 3 reels and borrowing rods from my friend, Joe. I’m thinking 25-30 for flylining, 50-60 for YoYo iron and maybe sinker rig, and then a big gun for 100-130, fish the knife jig bridled to a 9/0 Super Mutu.

Have been a long time admirer of Mike Lackey, and fished with Cameron for several years after he moved to the American Angler. So this one this year and I’m also booked on a July 3 day, same boat.

Probably bring these reels and and a small duffel with a size 3600 tray or two.
FTHXN15LD2, FTH40NLD2 and Mak 16SEa.

Just booked my flight on Southwest. $200 statement credit for applying for their credit card. $69 annual fee puts me at half the cost of the ticket. Score!

Talked with Mike this morning, hope I get to fish with him, but likely Cameron. Either way, I’m stoked just to be on the water. :)

Second guessing, thinking about adding a fourth reel, and maybe sub one for another. I have a nicely tuned Accurate BX2-600N, filled with 60 lb Cortland C-16 that I’ll sub for the 40NLD2. Similar gear ratio, suitable for fishing YoYo iron for Yellowtail and Blue/Chrome Tady 4/0, Salas 7X Heavy. Also very capable of fishing 60-80 lb Seaguar Premier, flylining or with a sinker.

Add the FTH30LD2 for 40 lb and even 50 lb flylining. Maybe one of my ATD reels for the heavy lifting on FlatFall and Knife Jig fishing. Wavering between the ATD30T or the ATD12T Super. Both are filled with 80 lb hollow, but I’ll be modifying them with measured 150-200 feet of measured line and 150-200 feet of 80 lb JB Hollow Patriot.
