Finally got a good fish to report. Went out with capt Jim on the Pioneer out of Kihei. Headed out toward Kaupo with really nice water which is rare there. We had a marlin strike and the thing took off jumping. Good show, but it forgot to take the hook with it!

We switched to bottom fishing and found the onaga. Several in the 10-15 lbs, but got one monster. We didn't weight it, but felt 20+ to me.

Nice fish. Too bad about the marlin, those things have been really lucky lately. Still sounded like a great day, especially with the nice water up in the channel.

That is one of the tastiest fish on the sea! We call them palu malau in Samoa where thay are caught in real deep water.

Good going on the catch! Does that stick on rail on the side of the hull make a big difference in the dryness
    of the ride?

As much fun as those are at the auction, you gotta save at least 1 or 2 for the dinner table.
    Great catch!!

The photo, while awesome, is nothing compared with seeing it in person. Big Onaga's are the most beautiful fish for their size.
