Always wanted to fish the islands and finally was able to. Left santa barbara at 530 and headed to Miguel.
Was not disapointed as we caught quality fish.
Limits on lings. Huge whitefish,reds,sheephead.
After a few hours i wanted to checkout the islands.
Ran in tight to miguel backside of Rosa and Cruz.
Checked out painted caves and back home.
What an amazing day!!!
Saw Orca, humbacks, mako, and thousands of dolphin. Back to the Hotel by 6 for happy wives who spent the day at the spa.
Jaccuzi, coctails and bed.
Water was 64.5 crystal clear 60 ft down you can see bottom.

Looks gorgeous - and the whitefish looks tastier then the 500lbs of tuna, yellowtail and dorado I have stored.

Best fish tacos in the world...

Nice grade of fish. I hope to get out there before the season is over. How long did it take you to reach San Miguel from Santa Barbara?
about 2 hours or so water was nice but took my time as it was my first trip out, I feel blessed just to have been there and experienced this majestic place!

how deep were u fishing out there? looks like a blast!
60/100 feet the lings are spawning in shallow water.
I have a couple hundred lbs of dorado tuna and ytail in my freezer with many offshore trips under my belt. This was in the top 5 best trips of my life. Fishing was awesome but just paled in comparison to just exploring this amazing place. I will be doing this once a year as there is just sooooo much to see you could go a hundred times and still see things that blow you away!

Thanks

Did you hear or see the elephant seals at the backside of Santa Rosa near Johnson's Lee? I've heard them from a distance and they are loud.

Never mind, just saw your added photos.

The black fish looks like a blue or black rockfish. Blue has a squared anal fin with smaller mouth. Black has a round anal fin with a bigger mouth extending past eyes. Find them in shallow water. I think the black rockfish are tastier!

Blue bass. They are like flees out there. Also for anyone going make sure you look at the mlpa out there. There are several. One is Richardson's Rock I see you have a pic of. Don't be caught in there with fish on board and hooks tied on.

Nice trip!

Wow, nice trip, looks like you scored the weather lottery, good for you!
Spent a lot of time at Miguel fishing and diving, one of my favorite islands.
Can't say how many times we've been turned around by weather headed out there when the E bouy is 2' @ 15 sec and calm to variable winds only to get within 10 mi off Miguel and 6' @ 9 sec and gusting to 25, a fickle place for sure.
If you were fishing near Richardson or Wilson Rocks you got lucky - Closed MLPA zones.
Great catch!

Right on!
Who's your buddy, might know him, we've been fishing/diving the islands for 30+ years.
It's really too bad about Richardson, that was one of THE BEST big reds and chuckles spot out there, there's also some high spots that would blow your mind about 6 or so miles headed towards Conception/Arguello out in the middle of nowhere.
