The timing worked out perfectly for me and I was lucky enough to pick up this skiff off a fellow BD member. I've had it out once and was more than happy with the ride. I haven't done much at all to it as it is in good shape but I did manage to throw a coupe coats of wax on it and fix a couple broken hinges.

Can't wait for all the future trips with this sled.

I would like to make the area accessible for storage under the front bench area (picture 2). Does anyone have any experience with the hatches they sell? Or are there any other options?

Thanks

It could be cut and retrofitted with fiberglass work, but unless you have experience, that would probably be a pro job. Not sure if they sell hatches your size but the Amarine made hatches on eBay are great and easy to install.

That's what I was thinking of doing, something simple as I don't have any experience with fiberglass work. Does anyone have any experience with something like this? I would also like to make a seat out of the same area so my concern is how sturdy these covers are.

I had two of them along the sides of my center console and two more large ones on the casting deck and stepped all over them on my old skiff. They are very sturdy and hardly flex. Under a seat is no problem, weight is distributed evenly over the hatch. Best of all, they are watertight, making for a nice dry storage spot. I always bedded the hatch and screws with 4200 to keep everything tight.

Make sure you get the ones with the honeycomb bottom as they are strongest.

So, I let the boat sit for too long while I was living in DC and came home to a frozen steering cable. Anyone ever changed one of these on a Calibogie? Fearing I might need to pull the outboard?

Thinking I should just run it above the deck as it looks like a major PITA routing in below with all the foam and minimal space. Any tips/help is appreciated.

I had to replace the one on my Hobie Skiff...probably a similar process. I din't have to remove the OB but it was a PITA. I attached it to the broken one and pulled it through.

Anybody have a solution for the hinges on all the hatches? Can’t seem to get them to last. I’ve replaced two so far and now the anchor hatch and port rear hatch failed.

The hatch material is so thin the crappy hinges rip out the rivers and all I’m left with is a hole in the decking.

I haven't had a problem. I'll see what I have when I get my boat back sunday.

Love your setup!! I just picked up this skiff on Saturday! Hoping to rig it kinda like yours! Bow rail is bent pretty weirdly and stern rails are cut though which is driving me crazy... needs a new gel coat too.
