Love following along with your updates and final tweaks long after the boat got wet for the first time.....seems most people drop off with no more info or pics after the project vessel gets fishable.
(Can’t say that I blame them! 😂)

I cannot wait to see some pics/boat porn of your GX2 installed. I have the exact same winch on my Hewescraft SeaRunner and absolutely ADORE it. You’re gonna love the Simrad AP setup too, good call there.

All said and done I think you’ll be glad you went through the time, effort, and expense to re-pull the flotation bracket and get it at the proper height for YOUR particular boat (despite bracket manufacturer’s recommendations!).

I have a Trophy 2509 here in SoCal with factory built in fiberglass bracket, and after re-powering with new twins that were only slightly heavier than the originals, sometimes when offshore in a rough following sea that bracket ends up waaaay under water from time to time for a few seconds. Scares the crap out of me but never have had water come over the transom or get inside the boat as of yet. 🤞🏼

All that to say, I think pulling your bracket and raising it a few inches will pay dividends in not only motor performance and fuel burn, but also your own personal confidence in your work/setup.

Keep up the good work & updates 👍👍

Yes, thanks. I'll put more pics here later this afternoon or eve. Show the winch, ap44 and ect. Yeah. After running the boat on plane at full throttle. The cavitation plate was few inches under water. Motor was on it's highest mount. I've got plenty glass and materials to fill in boot holes, re gelcoat the back. So it's gonna be pretty easy compared to all the glass and structure I put in at beginning.

Welp..I know I was only to put lil pressure at a time and let it pull away. Guess I put too much and it did peel few spots of gelcoat. No biggie. I gotta plug holes anyways so some fringing, sanding and fairing won't be an issue. 5200 didn't have a chance lol. I'll admit. That stuff was stuck tight. I think I'll reinstall with 4200 this time. Not planning to remove bracket but you never know.

Grinded down, and last thin coat of peanut butter. Let dry real good then I'll sand smooth. Wipe with Acetone and then throw couple coats gelcoat. Wetsand and buff out some. Measure up the bracket. Drill the holes. Coat t the drill holes with epoxy then seal and bolt it on. Not trying to make the pretties boat. Just want it best fishable boat it can be.

I wonder if the place that built the bracket would have mounted it in the same place that you originally had it at first or if they would have mounted it higher? and I would find a cheap 2 smoke and slap that puppy on and go fishing. You could be waiting a very long time to find a lower unit and with the 2 smoke you could be fishing soon.
Plus that would give you all the time in the world to find new lower unit but I am sure if your luck is like mine right after you get a 2 smoke a brand new unit will pop up right after you get one and it will be a great deal. At least thats how things always work out for me:(

They said mount at 24inchesso does the diagram.im at 27 inches now. I might buy an aftermarket fir$1200 just to go fishing. Then after I find a GD used one I'll keep it as spare.

So, got the kicker mounted. I went ahead and took off the panther bracket. Used the headboard for mounting pad. The steering kit will work better and it'll be a little more work raising and lowering but I'm gd with that. Anyone want to comment on how these two smaller red and black wires should go. The motor won't start unless I have the red connected to post terminal. Should I cut and connect directly to battery or ?

Thats one nice kicker setup with controls and start. Bad news for me cause my gears just went out on an aq 290 dp but I will start another thread to explain

Welp. Kicker is fully installed and rigged. Got my used lower unit today. Tomorrow pressure test it then hopefully install it and take a few test runs at the local lake. Itching to get some wsb at channel islands then plan a trip south to try my luck at some bluefin .

The used lower unit I bought had small leak during pressure test. My mechanic is replacing all the seals and O rings. Said gears were excellent shape. Decided to out another fresh coat of deck paint today. Getting ready for some fishing next WK. I'd really like to thank everyone again for all the advice, help and input along this rebuild. I honestly couldn't have done this without y'all. I drive semi's and paint homes for livings. So this was a wonderful experience.

i need to come down one notch. when i raised the bracket 3 inches i left motor in highest hole. i get small cavitation in swells. so i think dropping down one hole will be perfect. but raising the bracket made alot difference.
