Looks like a 5k price offering to me... But, you snooze you lose and he went ahead and purchased it himself and is now flipping

Sounds like he was overcharging for that boat anyways. At 5k would have been worth it for sure. Some people just aren’t honest when it comes down to it.
You may be better off continuing to search for the right one for you. Good luck

Ok ok. I guess I need to respond to keep my good name on BD. Saying someone isnt honest isnt cool but I understan y'all dont know the facts. Here is how it came down.

I have known the prior boat owner for over three years. I looked at this boat when I bought my first 216 3 1/2 years ago. Frankly it was too expensive at that time for the work that I wanted to do to it. That said, it was still a very good 216 and would be a very seaworthy boat with a little bit of elbow grease.

A few weeks back someone on BD made the request for anyone that had a line on a 216 for sale. I responded and made the recommendation at that time that there was "potentially" a barn find that I thought was still available and I thought someone could pick it up for $5000 if they were seriously interested and moved quick. At that point, I was asked by no less than 12 different people for the phone number of the person selling the boat. Multiple people called me and I spoke to multiple people giving them the phone number of the seller. I laid off and didn't attempt to buy the boat myself because I had no interest in it and wanted someone else to buy it.

Once the gentleman who owned the boat started receiving phone calls, he called me and asked me to help him out as the boat was stored on Camp Pendelton and his father who owned it was is a retired Vietnam Vet (+85) with no interest in escorting multiple people on the base to show it. He offered me a deal to help him out with the idea I could flip it and make a buck for my time and effort. So I bought it but not after given multiple other people the shot at it directly. Frankly, noone was quick enough and or decicive enough to move on it as a "barn find" requires.

So just to set everyone at ease, I recieced multiple offers well over $8k, some of which I agreed to but none of those offers never came through. I can tell you having owned a 216 and owning now a 226 that that boat, motor and trailer were well worth every bit of the price the buyer paid (this is a Cabo, not a whaler or a Mako or a Parker - the hull is in the same class as a Davis Cortez - these are prized possessions). That said, the guys who bought it bought it for a good price and will re-power it. To further help them out I gave that person when he bought it the name of a guy in Baja that has already agreed to buy the 175 immediately for $2k.

So, his net price for the prized boat is well worth what he paid for it and I made a buck helping and 85 year old Vietnam vet out (which I tried to do initially for no fee).

I just saw this post or I would have spoken up sooner. I have known Guy for a few years, Guy is a true gentleman who displays absolute integrity and honesty. I would not hesitate to do any business deal with him based on his word alone. He is a solid craftsman who has done amazing things with his boats. He is also a fine father and husband. Guy sorry for the haters and trolls. You never have a need to defend yourself.

Defend yourself for being a capitalist? And you didn't even try to flip a 5k boat into 10k. Which if you could and not screw anyone you should!

    Be a capitalist with integrity
