Went through the exact same stringer issue 6 months ago. My personal rot cam from the big wood screws they used to secure the engine bracket, they never siliconed the screw and when I removed my deck I found both side stringers completely disintegrated from the inside out.

a little advice since you've already done most of the leg work.. You can raise the deck by extending the stringers with some 2 x 4's, pre drill and drill bolts down from the top to secure the extension, fiberglass them together and your deck will sit 3 1/2 in taller, making it possible to self drain.... no more water in the engine compartment.

    Hope that helps.

The more research I do the more confidence that I gain, I never imagined that I would be where I am now but I’m glad I haven't stopped pushing forward.

Cut The rest of that shit out too, all the way to the front of the fish box. I'm sure if you poke around you'll find deck rot under where the seats were. You can make the front fish box huge by using the stringers and adding 2 bulkheads. I left 2" of deck behind the cabin bulkhead for the new deck to sit on, made it an easy tie in.

I’m so glad that I took the time to rip out the rest of the deck, I found termites in the plywood. I’ll have to pull out the remaining portion which is the cabin as that too has termite damage.

Yo can’t tell in the second pic but the second layer of plywood is missing in certain areas, the termites appeared to enjoy their feast

I would gas the hell out of them and cover it would a tarp for a week. Just to be sure. After that I would continue. If I found any more alive, I would have to come up with a plan 2.

Had termites in the last boat. Only effective way was to have the boat tented by an exterminator. Good luck.

I will be ripping out the rest of the deck that has damage, once that's out there will be nothing left that had any sort of termite damage. I'll probably use some sort of over the counter termite poison on the deck before I install it. I think the important thing is to get anything that is infested out.

Buy your termite chemicals on line, ebay or even amazon they will ship to California, even buy your bottom paint and top coat on line. All the Shit they sell in California SUCKS, Because of AQMD and all other BULLSHIT regulations in California!!! You can get the GOOD shit out of state that will last on your boat.

Nice little Video, careful climbing into the boat over sharp objects camera angle looked yikes.
I did s similar project and feel your pain, it’s a long haul but worth it and you’ll learn some neat things. Cudos I’m still working on mine just making it better.

Since Mother Nature decided to take a break and provide us with some sunshine it’s back to the bump and grind for me

When I started cutting out the stringers I noticed that the 1708 was delaminating, I was able to get a flat prybar and lift it away and most of it came out with the stringer(s). As far as the blob of resin goes I took the advice of @rowdyrosco and just beat the shit out of It, so glad I was wearing my safety goggles because a nice piece flew up and hit me right in the goggle. As soon as the sun started to set I called it a night and cleaned up the area. Tomorrow I will work on getting the rest of the resin out.

I had a few oddities on my tear out and rebuild also. Then I realized hey, it’s just a production boat and custom. Chances are someone would look at my rebuild photos and say WTF but I have confidence in it and know it’ll float.
    Looking good!
