Hey all, first time post here. I purchased this as my first boat a couple weeks ago. Looking for some advice on how to make the most of the deck space. She will be used for diving and fishing primarily and the occasional surfing. Some of the key features Ive been trying to incorporate to the deck/swim step are gun racks, bait tank, and a cooler.. plus any additional storage I can swing.

I'm so stoked on this being my first boat because it was purchased on a whim and the stars aligned. She was a project that needed finishing and most of that work is done ie complete rewiring. I have yet to run it out to the islands, but thats next on the list of trips. She's slightly underpowered but efficient and gets up on plane no problem, however I am leaning towards a four stroke 90 eventually. Anyways! Any information or links to previous small boat projects would be great!

Very very cool boat! I've been looking for a small boat myself for surfing and fishing, it's cool to see how everyone decks out their smaller boats differently.

Can we see shots inside the house? Is it big enough to sleep comfortably? How big of a bait tank you going for?

Wow, that's a beautiful first boat, congrats. Tells us more.

What size Etec is that? Smaller than 90hp I guess?

How long is the boat over all? What's going on in that cutty?

Is that clean wiring your work? If so you have some skills.

I’ve done it before with a brush lightly dipped in black or grey paint, then slide the brush across your fingers with a glove on. Splatters the paint really well

I'll check if I have pics of the inside. She's 17ft and runs a 2013 60hp, motor only has about 10 hours on it. Cab is roughly 6ft long and needs to be built out, at 5'11" it's tight but not far off camping. I did most of the wiring with a little help from some family

I didn't do any of the paint or body work on this boat, I purchased it as an almost done project. He had tried out two props before and wasn't having much success so he got a recommendation from a local shop and never got it in the water with the third prop. She runs flawlessly with the newest prop!

That’s killer. Was that an Anderson’s resto job. Looks like their work.
Its a bit of a franken boat. The hull is a Glasspar and the cuddy was actually taken off a clapped out Hobie powerskiff that was built out by Anderson. The seller then did all the piece work and ultimately brought it to Jeff Hulls place for final sand work.

I'm thinking a 10 gallon tank on the swim step at the moment but worried about the weight. If I upgrade to a 90 hp or more thats going to be an additional 100lbs alone. I believe a 10 gal will keep bait alive for the day and if I am out fishing for two days I will probably be making my own bait at that point.

She handles extremely well in the chop, definitely a bit rough but what 17ft'ers aren't.

Sweet boat! I thought I recognized the house! The last time I saw it it was going down the 101 on a Uhaul car trailer. I'm glad it found a new home! I really like the seadek idea! make sure to post updates when that happens!

Here is the cab

And here is my anchor light mast, I had our welding shop built up something simple for the deck light and anchor light. I found a 4 prong water proof plug and was able to wire the two lights on to two separate circuits.

I would hang a 90, or at least a 75 on that boat. The 60 will do, but if you gotta move in a hurry, it might be tough
Definitely going to go at least the 90 route because from what Ive seen 75-90 hp's all weigh about the same. I've thought about going with a 110, but seems unnecessary. Ive run it twice now, once from Ventura to little Rincon and most recently Ventura to Sb. However, this was all with minimal weight, I think any weight added to the cabin wont cause any issues, my biggest concern is adding more weight to the deck area. She cruises no problem at 25 mph and will get up to 30 mph.

Congrats on the new skiff...saw you out cruising SB harbor the other day when I was hanging in my slip. Got a few pics for ya.

In regards to power...i would go with a 115 Yamaha. Same weight as the 90. All the guys I know with Greenough 17s that went from a 90 yamaha to a 115 got better numbers all around with the 115.

Or....go talk to Jeff Hull in Ventura and order a 140 Suzuki. It weighs less than 20lbs more than the Yamaha but spins a bigger prop and has more toque. That's what I'm putting on my 16ft Radon project that's currently in his yard.

hahah thank you! slight stress while navigating through the harbor for my first time. and trying not to piss anyone off. And thank you for the info!! I'll probably go that route, this was all the info I was hoping to get! My buddy works for Jeff so Ive been using him as the messenger. I didn't want to waste any of his time until I am closer to being ready to pull the trigger. As for reliability how are the Suzukis, I realize its all opinion based and I know they have a 6 year warranty which I like.

Very reliable. I honestly think in the HP range you can't go wrong with the major manufacturers. It when you get up to the 300+ range that things get more complex.

I was originally going to go with a 115 Yamaha on mine til I looked into the slighter heavier Suzuki 140

My only concern is the transom/ swim step since the seller is the one who had it all built up. Not to say it wasn't built correctly just want to confirm the whole backend of the boat isn't going to rip off 😂. Do you know the rough out the door cost for the motor is?
Also, boat looks sick!

Probly around $11k for the motor/controls.

If you're concerned about the transom setup I would definitely have that looked at before you repower.

If the current motor runs well, gets you on plane with a load and can cruise at 20knots...I'd run that til it dies. There's a few days you can open up the throttles and run 30+ but for the most part its 20knot cruising in a boat that size around these parts.
