Ran south yesterday to flew the kite and show some friends from Quebec what California fishing has been like the past few years. Plan worked out. 185# on the scale at Dana and Five Star. 302: Nice water and some bird sign, no fish. 62* 371: one dry kelp W of 371 got the fish. 63* water clean and beautiful. Marked fish at 150-200' but no sign on the surface. Trolled a Yummy on the kite. Bit within 30 min. 425: 63 - some birds, dolphin and whale. Some decent marks down deep W of South island. LOTS of tuna pens being towed around. At least 12 of the big boats out there, careful if running south. North Island: 63 and cleaning up. Tons of red crab with bass flipping on them at Pukey. Cool to watch, but they wanted nothing to do with surface iron or live bait. Off of North Island, lots of fast moving bonito schools with terns on them. - Looks like the Islands are ready to start firing off here pretty quick Fingers crossed the wind this weekend doesn't mess things up.
