Went out w/ my 15yo son today. Launched a little late at 10 out of Sunset. One other boat, a nice Whaler center console launched at same time. Tried to make macs for nada at Nachos. He had no fin bait, but had squid air picked up a 1/4 so I felt better. Amazing day on the water, glass conditions tapering off to smooth with some light wind ripple. Overall a great day. Water around 60.5 +\- inside the rigs and highest I got outside and south was 61.8. No boat traffic whatsoever, I saw three boats all day. No life outside that I found. A few whales and some pods of Dolphin. Always fun to see. But no meter marks or bait balls. Inside the rigs on the way out looked good, bait puddling and lots of life. Soaked some squid at a few spots for nothing. I was lazy and went to the closer ramp as we got a late start. if I were doing it again, I’d launch out of Dana. There was some radio Tuna down south of there and some paddies holding 8-10lb yellows from the chatter. We ended the day cruising through Bolsa Chica reef and found some good marks on the north central high spot. Soaked squid for a few and dropped jigs for nada. Passed my squid off to some dudes fishing sandbass. Overall great day, didn’t do any worse than I did during Tuna season so there’s that. Boat ran great, no one got hurt, we got home safe and had some laughs. Interesting that I saw a sea turtle at the Huntington Harbor entrance. Couldn’t get a pic but odd. I heard there’s a few residents in the LB area that stay. Beautiful sunset too. I should’ve on the water to watch.
