Anyone the fits my schedule
Heading to the FHS next week and would like to check out some 15# rated rods for Calico fishing. Thinking live bait or throwing squid strips on light lead heads. Can you recommend blanks and rods that you like? Thank you in advance.

Shimano Teramar 80MH. The one with the cork handle. Matches up really well with a 300 sized reel. It’s more of a #20 rod than a #15 rod. Ideal range is 3/4 oz and up. But it has the backbone to get calicos out of the kelp if that might be in the game plan.

For an awesome #15 rod that would be great for 1/2 oz baits I would suggest a Phenix Inshore M1 711 ML. This rod is actually rated for 1-3 oz but I throw 1/2 oz swimbaits on it all day and it is more of a spottie, halibut and bay rod for me than a calico rod but it would be perfect for open water light duty calico fishing if that’s what you’ll only use it for.

The Phenix 711ml m1 inshore with a Lexa 300 is my go unit to for open water calicos. You can fish this all day. Light and well balanced. For the fish in the kelp the m1 802mh seems to work well.

Calstar 196-8 and 270-8. Those two rods go with me on every inshore trip and have caught 90% of my fish that dont rhyme with Tuna.
