A game changer showed up today. Portable power I give two thumbs up. Costco special that runs great and has a powerful/quiet eco mode that still runs all my power tools/shop vac on. Few more toys on the way.

You're pulling the deck completely out and removing all foam on this project right? That will definitely help the decisions making process of tank placement

Got myself a new 6” sander and a truck hitch hoist to pull the motor alone during these lockdown times. Says it lifts 500#/750#/1000# so I’m sure it’ll be just fine to lift a 250# motor. now I’ll be able to pull the motor, remove the top cap, pull the decking, and see what’s underneath. I’ve been stuck not being able to do any work until this showed up. Hopefully I’ll be able to get some good progress tomorrow.

Took the motor off today.. that took a good portion of the morning and in this situation should have been a 2 person job. That hoist hooked up to the truck is tough to use alone (maybe for outboard removals only). The reach on that arm is so short when jacked up to the height to remove the motor it was maxed out.. which was only about 1” higher than the transom..which is 1” higher than the motor stand I made... just a pain in the ass alone to get it off and moved 15 feet onto the stand while hooked up to the truck. Finally removed the entire top cap and got to get a feel with what I’m working with below. Will have to reinforce the transom, but shockingly strong still. The deck layer I had to really separate slowly..things have really stuck together since 1975. It looks like the deck layer and the hull were placed together and foam was poured in the bow, stern, and 2 small knee-sections on the sides to where they poured foam to fill anywhere foam would go. And overtime it’s really sticking to the deck layer. I don’t know if I will be able to separate the layer without doing some damage .. to the point where I just need to say forget it, cut it all out, and rebuild the deck, side walls, etc.. A lot more work and money but might be worth it...? Thoughts?

Couldn’t separate the inner layer from the hull, so I cut a 2” x 4” hole to find wet plywood (no surprise), cut more to find more water damage.. now tearing up the entire deck. No use trying to save anything. Ground up from a fresh 15.5 hull is the plan.

Extend the lift with a section of square tube, that'll get you at least another few feet of distance from the back of your truck, and more height to play with. It should be able to hold it no problems. And good call on redoing the whole deck, you'll be glad you did. Lookin good so far

Working slow because I don’t know what is under, but today filled almost 4 contractor bags full of old and wet foam from.. each bag weighing about 30 lbs. each (just from the starboard side). Tomorrow I will try and get the rest of the boat cleared out now that I have a better idea what’s down below. The design ideas are starting to flow for the reassembling. Not a whole lot to a 15’.

Do you have any pictures with foam intact? I just want to see where factory foam placement was

So once you cut the floors was that all foam underneath? You think if you had to do it again would just cutting the floor be enough to getting all the foam out? Was there foam between the walls? Hey can I share this thread in Livingston facebook group?

There is foam between the walls.. it looks like the foam under the deck is completely different than the foam in between the walls. I had to take the entire deck and everything up because the fiberglass had started to separate from the wood, but adhered to the foam so much I couldn’t do anything else but rip it all out.

These are the only photos that kinda show the foam that was in between the walls.. super brittle stuff, but on the deck what you’re seeing is the fiberglass stuck to the foam underneath that had to all get pulled. Feel free to share if it helps others.. I had no idea what was underneath or how they were constructed so hopefully it could be some blueprints for someone else.

I want to second the “blueprint idea”. It’s cool to see how the design evolved. I just cut out the floor of my 15.5. No foam at all. Also no stringer down the middle of each hull.

Livingston did some weird things to each boat! What year is yours? My buddy just picked up a 1997 warrior and inside his boat has zero foam as well.. I didn’t check for a stringer though. His layout is so much different than mine and its pretty much stock. I’d love to see your progress photos of your project as welll!

Little more work today. Hours add up really fast just on the demo. Ripping more apart - foam and fun. Almost to a bare hull. The idea process is killing me. I want to rebuild it right, weight is an issue, and expensive. Here is more gutting photos. I’m not in a rush because I can’t settle on how I want to rebuild. Where to put the fuel tank, how far forward the steering should be as where I stand because of weight, how to rebuild taller rails, how wide should the enclosed console should be. That’s the fun part I guess!
