Can the 12 visx fish 80? I imagine the 16 is more of the go-to but with only a 5lb difference in max drag it’s hard to imagine there being large performance differences (for fishing 80) outside of line capacity. (Unless I’m missing something

looking for a reel that can fish 60-80 and feel if I wanted to bump down to 60 that the 16 would be overkill/heavy/ etc

for fishing 18-25 lbs of drag shouldn’t 40lb max be more than enough??

thanks

will fish that no problem. x2 on handle replacement. lower gear ratio is what’s nice about the visx 12 imo.

can I ask you who is spooling bulk ProSpec? around the landing's area? I switched out a couple of my 40-60 reels and I really like it. thanks

Johnny at Dana Landing in Mission Bay did that particular reel. He’s a rigging master. If I don’t have it done at Dana, I have Ricky do it at Fisherman’s Landing.

I was looking at the same reels but decided on the VISX 16 because it’s only 4oz heavier and holds about 25% more line. I just spooled both of mine with 80lb Seaguar Threadlock and managed to fit an entire 600yd spool on each one. I’ll splice some 60lb mono into it tomorrow and see how much it takes (I’m not looking for a lot). OR…I’ll splice a loop and use short wind on top shots or leaders. I haven’t quite committed yet.

    Anyone that takes me
I have a 12 with 650 yards of 80# Hollow Ace set at 25lbs strike with a 20’ top shot. My 16 has 700 yards of 100# hollow Ace set at 30lbs strike. They both have the upgraded 30 size handles and put the 16 handle on my 40N. So yes the 12 is an 80lb reel.
