Dear January, you played with our emotions! Everyone has been convinced for years that January is the best month for fishing in Guatemala. Although in past years January has had a few extremely high numbers days, this year was different and humbled us. We still had sailfish, marlin, and great mahi and tuna meals! And remember those extremely high days have also happened in in every month out of the year.

• January 1st-25th, the Afinity (39' Billy Knowles) with Capt. Nico Melendrez, had 216 raises, 193 bites, 152 sailfish releases plus 5 marlin raises, 4 marlin bites, 4 marlin releases (2 blue marlin & 2 striped marlin), 32 tuna, and 75 mahi-mahi!
• January 1st-25th, the Rum Line (40' Gamefisherman) with Capt. Terry Brennan, had 226 raises, 216 bites, 173 sailfish releases plus 5 marlin raises, 2 marlin bites, 1 marlin release, 27 tuna, and 88 mahi-mahi.
• January 1st-25th, fishing a total of 8 days, the El Cadejo (39' Contender) with Capt. Benji Baires, had 79 raises, 62 bites, 33 sailfish releases plus 2 marlin raises, 2 marlin bites, 2 marlin releases (1 blue marlin & 1 striped marlin), 9 tuna, and 25 mahi-mahi!
• January 1st-25th, the Finest Kind (40' Whiticar) with Capt. Nicho Alvarenga, had 255 raises, 232 bites, 166 sailfish releases plus 3 marlin raises, 1 marlin bite, 1 marlin release, 24 tuna, and 79 mahi-mahi.
• January 1st-25th, the Hooker (48' G&S) with Capt. David Salazar, had 236 raises, 196 bites, 150 sailfish releases plus 2 marlin raises, 1 marlin bite, 1 marlin release, 35 tuna, and 80 mahi-mahi
• January 2nd-25th, the Makaira (37' Rybovich) with Capt. Jeffrey Garcia, had 191 raises, 176 bites, 137 sailfish releases plus 3 marlin raises, 1 marlin bite, 1 marlin release (striped marlin), 23 tuna, and 85 mahi-mahi.
• January 3rd-25th, the Release (37' Merritt) with Capt. Sammy Baires, had 184 raises, 162 bites, 116 sailfish releases, plus 6 marlin raises, 5 marlin bites, 4 marlin releases (3 blue marlin & 1 striped marlin), 28 tuna, and 80 mahi-mahi.
• January 6th-22th, the Spindrift (38' Stolper) with Capt. Franz Hoffman, had 137 raises, 125 bites, 59 sailfish releases plus 9 marlin raises, 9 marlin bites, 2 marlin releases, 1 tuna, 27 mahi-mahi, 10 grouper, and 1 rainbow runner.
