The Captain and I pushed off around 4:30, plenty time to catch the nite-time stuff. Knowing R is gone we didn't head up the coast too far as we wanted to be at S for twilight. Caught some Akules, some extra large, and kept those guys alive. Just as we could see the outline of the Waianae's, we headed towards the buoy, there were 5 jiggers there, pretty cramped quarters. Just as it started to lighten up we were able to pick up some critters, into the live well they go.

Then we ran out to just inside the 1000, as we were setting lines the stbd rigger went, to keep this short... By 8am we quit keeping track of the bites, it was relentless. We did end up picking up a Hebi in all of those bites. Yeeha!!!

Probably around 9am, Nerlie and I in the tower, the center went again, probably the 4th time it had gone. As I was climbing down to the back deck, I was starting to think this could be something, as I had pushed the drag up to strike and all that happened was the speed of the line departing the reel increased. I immediately started looking for porpoise... No more.
    DSCF0359.jpg

Got all the lines cleared, belt and harness on, boat out of gear and got down to it... Fish took quite of bit of line, that's alright, if things work out I'll get it packed back on the reel tighter than previously. Nerlie is convinced we need the bang stick (thanks Nick), so she loads it up, sets it off to the side, for just in case. Finally getting the fish close, COLOR!!!, but it doesn't look like all the other ones I'm used too. But can't figure out why.

Nerlie and I decide we probably won't need the BS, thank God, I really did not want to use it. The last 50 feet, the fish had given up. I guess he gave it all up on the run and subsequent battle. Set the rod in the holder, leadered, Nerlie handed me the gaff, one more circle and in goes the stainless, OH it feels so good.... Nerlie follows w/ a second gaff, open the door and thru it comes. Sure enough, no sickles. This is my first BET over 100 ##'s!!! Nerlie and I celebrate as I explain to her how rare this is from my fishing experience.

We give our thanks and continue to get blitzed by those little bastages (spearfish or Naraigis, not sure which ones). Get back in around 3:45, clean up and head to the house, so thankfull for our unforgetable day. We kept the liver, just in case there was any doubt.

Some of the spread that went home to get tuned up, more than these were wacked. Second from the bottom, left side got the Bigeye, plenty JSI's.
