I celebrated the first day of winter by fishing on a friend’s boat with hopes of building up a stash of rock fish fillets for winter. Not surprisingly we were the only boat at the ramp at 0300. Conditions were not bad most of the day with intermittent wind and just an occasional light rain and even a rainbow. We got to the area and started catching smaller rock fish. We checked out other spots and finally connected with the larger ones some going 8lbs. Some of the fish puked up squid and some egg sack looking things but not sure what they were. After catching what we wanted we decided to head in one fish short of limits but nothing to complain about. Water was clean green and 56 degrees everywhere we went. We found a handful of kelp paddies on the way home but all were barren of life. Enjoy the rock fish porn.
