    Greetings:

Dana Point Harbor was festive due to Christmas being right around the corner.
    1.JPG

Left at the crack of dawn, plan was to drift for Butt.
    2.jpg

    Sunrise was beautiful. Wind offshore.
    3.JPG

Caught both Spanish and Pacific Macks, from 4" - 7". Bycatch was one Lizard fish 14" and about 20 Whitefish. on the Sabiki rig.
    4.JPG

Plenty of great bait. Middle barber pole
    5.jpg

Bounce Balled for about two hours till the wind came up. Got one decent strike, but she didn't return. Came inside.

Been craving some fish tacos, So a did one drop with a lead head, scored, then decided to go in.
    6.jpg

    Plot thickens:

Saw this video about a year or so ago. Please watch it.

Since the bycatch included A large Lizard Fish, I kept that and two White Fish,. . . just in case. Being a sick SOB, my mind started give way to unreasonable logic. Wonder if . . . Thus the Taco Taste Test.

Order went Lizard Fish, White fish the Turd Rangler. I ate half of each before moving on to the next. When all had been tasted, I revisited the Lizard, White and Turd to complete the meal. Have to say, not a huge difference when the fish is fresh and stuffed into a taco with the trimmings. Not please with the initial evaluation, I headed back to just the fried fish for a second taste.

Lizard Fish - Translucent white meat. Hair size bones in filets cook to nonexistence. Flavor good, texture - mushy.
White Fish - White meat. Can cut out the bones. Flavor good - texture mushy
Turd Rangler - Whitish meat. Flavor good. Great texture.

Lizard - Great meal if your on "Naked and Afraid".
White - Filler if you have a lot of guests
    Bass - Wins

Water was clear and ranged from 60-62 degrees. Not much current.

Great to get out again. Thinking about getting sick on Monday so I can do it again. Merry Christmas to you all in case I don't create a thread before then.

Sand bass has a glutinous texture that sticks to the roof of my mouth and the veins turn a dull grey color upon cooking making them less then favorable for me.

    White fish is great.

I thought only Carl was a lizard eater?

Thanks for the Nice comparison. Just scientific enough. We like sand bass but prefer sculpin any day. I heard lizardfish is decent but have not tried it, yet. The next lizard we catch will be cooked.

I have a feeling there are a lot of closet Lizard Fish eaters, just like smokers.

So glad you chimed in as one who has tasted the boney slime stick. With your credecials you saved me from getting smoked. Thanks longboard85!

    "PSUH!"

Went fishing with Sushimi for rockfish in LB. This dude knows fishing and takes great care gutting, gilling, bleading the catch and placing on kill bag ice in minutes. His tacos must be phenomenal!

We have to do it again Sam.

That is interesting,I used to have a japanese lady neighbor, and she ate every fish I ever took her,and one time we got a whole bunch of larger lizard fish out of oceanside, and I gave them to her along with sandbass, and she said thank you very much for the fish,bt she would decline to take any more of the lizard fish...mushy was one of the reasons.

Me too, before I saw this video.

Dude planted a seed. Below average day of fishing watered it.

As the guy who invented the internet (Al Gore) said, "Don't believe everything you see on the internet".
