First trip on the new boat. Shelter Island launch ramp 6:30 AM. Great sardines from San Diego Bay. Got to puky point wind started picking up from the east. Started fishing for Rockfish. We got a nice lingcod and caught several red Rockfish. We took off to go to Middle grounds and got one Bonita there on the Troll. Ran down to South Island and started to catch yellowtail. We caught three and lost 2 to the sea lions. Beautiful day on the water! Great half-day fishing! Back at the Dock at noon!
Lot's of fish out there!
Go fishing save a turkey
Good Luck!

Bonito huh....

Well I suppose they are in the same family, but then again so are Pacific (Greenback) Mackerel, so I guess LaJolla and Point Loma pretty much slay the tuna year round! ;)

there are yellow fin tuna... but yellow tail isn't a tuna, it's a jack.

Bonito look like skipjacks... the blue and strips are on the opposite half.
sounds like a fun day, thanks for the report. since no one asked... did you see the Mexican navy out there? oh and let us know the size of the yellows, thanks

The Navy was there zipping around but did not stop anyone that I saw. The yellows were from 5 to 25 lbs. Good luck out there!!
