Almost forgot how to post a report??? A few trips, only a couple pics, haven't been very focused on snapping pics.
11/23 Mikey, slip neighbor's (Les) nephew and I pushed off early to get some bait. Would also add Les and Mikey's Dad were out on Les's boat. got a few akule then ran out to R, variety out there, small shibis/akus, halalus and medium opelus. Dragged a couple around for an hour or 2 nothing.

Trolled outside, by mid day headed back down south, on the 1000 Maili we get the typical winter time attack, before it was all said and done every lure had gotten slammed, ended up w/ 1 Nairagi about 60#. Mikey gets on the radio and gives his uncle and Dad crap about blood in the box. Get set back up, flat goes and comes off, by now down around Kahe, so head it back up north. Get blitzed again, get one about 80#, sweet, Mikey of course gives his Dad and uncle more crap. Cut up the smaller one, gave Mikey and family the other one for Thanksgiving. No pics from Wednesday.

11/27 Derrick and Hunter met me down at the boat around 5, bait is why. Got some and released a couple papios as well. Ran out to R, mostly small shibis. Set up to troll, head up north look for CO couldn't find it, not sure if it went missing or I was blind, pretty big swells may have just missed it. Had a mahi grab the flat line, but came off. Heading back towards the middle, the port corner and center both go, center instantly comes off, corner stays stuck for awhile, then comes off, check bot lures, teeth marks, no way it was mahis, bummers. Make a bunch of passes thru the area, no more.
Just outside the 1000 outside the harbor, get the Nairagi blitz end up with 1 close to 100, nice. set back up, maybe an hour or so later get blitzed again, this time no more, another half hour or so, get attacked again, this time we get one 100+, sweet. Around 3P, decide to head it towards the harbor, clearing lines, riggers only lures out, just crossed the 200 curve when the stbd rigger goes, look back and think, we might have a chance (can maneuver well only 1 other lure), maybe it will come off, its gonna be dark by the time we get this one. I only saw the shoulders and back and it was a conservative 4+. Never ran, just kept pulling line, like it didn't even know yet it was hooked, kinda fortunately it came off after a couple of minutes.

12/4 Pushed off at 5, akule bit very good, ran out to R very small halalus and opelus. Drifted thru the area w/ a bigger akule out, nothing. Trolled out to the dogmouth dead the whole way out and back. Another slip neighbor (KC lures) had gone out the day before, word was it was SLOW. Just inside the pinnacle saw my first "almost" pile, they weren't quite sure what they were supposed to do. Stayed there for awhile, no love. Head it towards R, just cross the 500 and start to plan the clean up disappointed w/ the day. Had to change my thinking, the port flat went, scurry down from the tower push the drag up then the stbd rigger goes, drag up, thinking stripers, see the flat line fish, nope blues, at least that one. One fish runs hard to stbd, the other pretty much straight back, that should be good. Get the back deck set up, I squatted to pee that day, left the rods in the rod holder. Remember Kai'Nana's mantra; if you squat to pee you can leave the rod in the rod holder. 2 fish on and solo, no way can belt and harness up.
Long story short: got the first one to leader, after having done the rod dance, moving rods back and forth. Bang stick loaded up, leader the fish, good bang stick shot, gaff and thru the door. Start reeling in the second one and it comes off, probably a good thing. 95% of the day, very slow, 5% mayhem, very cool.

Great reports/reads/pics. Glad you caught up here. LOL
Thanks Ron.
Right on Pat and crews. Good going on the fish, especially the solo
Thanks Darren.
From zero to hero in the blink of an eye. Before these last 3 trips it had been pretty slow behind Ka'Nana... take'em when you can get'em.
Way to go Pat! what you loading the Boom stock with, 44 magnum?
tight lines,
Thanks Eric, 357, the holding device on the 44 is damaged.
Thanks for the reports Pat.

Chuck
Thanks Chuck, I suspect yesterday was a busy day for you and the Bowfin crew.

Cheers

11/27 Derrick and Hunter met me down at the boat around 5, bait is why. Got some and released a couple papios as well. Ran out to R, mostly small shibis. Set up to troll, head up north look for CO couldn't find it, not sure if it went missing or I was blind, pretty big swells may have just missed it.
12/17 and an update... I think it was a safe bet that on the 27th that CO buoy was missing, probably the previous strong NE winds a few days earlier. Let's talk about a needle in a haystack! Mikey, Les's nephew, was supposed to meet me at the boat ay 5, he text me at 4:30 saying he couldn't make it. Pushed off around 5:15, got some akule in close and some medium opelus at R. Set my sights on the horizon and throttled up. Crossed the 1000, slowed and set the breakfast spread. Les and Mikey's Dad were out on Les's boat as well.

Plan was to head to the dog mouth and figure it out from there... talked w/ Les a few times, he had found a pile and picked up some 10-12 akus. probably around 10:30-11:00 see what I first thought was a large white bird, then as I got closer thought a boat, wrong, used the binos and see its a buoy, suspecting CO. Mind you I am totally by myself, all I've seen is the Young Bros. tug/barge heading back from Kauai. Les is many miles behind me no other boats in sight. To say I was amped is an understatement. Pondering my options... live bait (check), dead bait (check) rubber squid for jigging (check) only thing I did have was a "charlie".

A quarter mile from the buoy I reel in the flats/corners bring closer in the 3 riggers and clear the back deck. Get back up to trolling speed probably 300 yds from the buoy all 3 lures go, OH BOY, 2 stuck, reel in a couple 10-15# shibis. Set back up, a fish swirls on the rigger and misses; its not as active as I first thought, so dropped down in size, 3-5". Picked off a few more. I should also mention I did let Les know as well, he calls me and says hey, I don't see you, he has statute miles on his machine and I have nautical so he was quite a bit short of the correct distance, he eventually found Kai'Nana. Since the bite slowed and I did get a double shibi/mahi; I put out a live opelu and dragged that around for an hour or so, never even got nervous.

Let's cut to the chase, Les was catchin' shibis, I was eyeing the clock, didn't need/want to get back in the dark, so stopped w/ that and set up the trolling spread and headed it towards the barn. About an hour later, here from Les he says he caught a Blue about 100, excellent. Keep heading it towards the barn, Les does the same. Kai'Nana makes some laps around R, chat w/ Les he is a dozen or so miles out still. Just as I am pulling into the harbor he calls and says he just hooked up to a big marlin, I tell him, if you catch him and need a hand let me know (there's 3 on his boat); I have a door he doesn't makes it so much easier to manage a bigger marlin. He says thanks, but if he gets it, he'll manage. They got it and towed it to the harbor, here she is...

I should also mention the boat that slips directly behind Les had a 300#r on the deck when I was heading up to the truck after cleaning up. Great day, surprised the buoy wasn't loaded w/ mahis, still a banner day. I gave Les all of the shibis as he has an outlet for them. Sorry I didn't take a single pic, Les had sent me his marlin pic.

Cheers and have the GREATEST OF CHRISTMAS'S
Pat
