What’s your 100lb setup on a budget

Whats your budget?

I have no affiliation with the seller but this is about as "TURN KEY" as you can get for a decent price.

Find a Penn 15KG and get it left handed and blueprinted by Cal for $150
Really nice reels.
Cal left hands other reels as well.

Just an idea.

Cal can "left hand" machined aluminum reels like Internationals, Torques, etc. The 15KG is graphite.

Buy a second hand International 30 or 50.

Avet HXW Raptor and an Okuma PCH 741XXXXH or XXXH. $800, add on line and you’re OTD for $1k. Personally, if I didn’t have 1k to spend on a new 100# setup then I would wait until I have the funds. I wouldn’t feel comfortable fighting a huge fish on gear that’s borderline.

Spend money on the reel. There are quite a few budget Chinese rods that seem decently capable like the graftechs or Okuma PCH rods.

Interesting. He told me he could only do machined aluminum [non-levelwind] models, though within those parameters, could handle most any brand or model. Will check with him next time I talk to him, maybe something changed.

You need to provide more specifics, ie.. stand-up, rail, private boat, party boat.

My opinion, if stand-up, pick up a used reel, many can be had in the $400 range that are more than capable. Used Mak 20's come up all the time for $400-500. Avet 30 or 50 for $400 or less. As for a rod, keep your eye out for a used Seeker or Calstar in a model that fits your needs. Someone had a SS 5.5' listed on here for under $300. Would be a good stand up option.

Looking for a rail rod, you will definitely be spending more, but used deals can be had. If you are patient, a solid set-up can be had put together for $600-700.
