Jig rods

How would you characterize the difference between the 100j and the 540. I like to throw lighter, 3 ounce, jigs

Both the rods fish almost the same... but the 100J is a bit more parabolic then the 540. The 540 has a slightly faster action tip which I think makes it slightly more aggressive as a 40lb rod... which is helpful at places like the Coronado islands and local SD spots where you need to bully fish away from furbags.

The 100J loads up better... it will chuck your Tady Cs and Stingers a bit better. The 540 will load up heavier jigs to a 7X a bit better.

I’m a fan of both depending on the situation. You can fish 40lb pretty hard on the 100J, yet the rod to pull harder on is the 540.

The 100j in all reality is a 30# stick. Anymore than 10lbs of drag and it really bottoms out quickly. It’s slightly softer than a seeker 540

Calstar 540 and 100J are the two rods I’m referencing. You can fish well over 10lb of drag on a 100J too.. for local fishies I button down 40lb on mine... which is also trimmed 6in on the butt.

The cut turns that rod into a completely different blank. A 100j uncut just doesn’t fish heavy drag very well. Its quite uncomfortable. Better off with a 100jmag for true 40/50# jig duties

If anything I think it turned into a 20-40lb rod. I call it the super noodle it's so damn whippy. Gives a 542 a run for it's money on the noodle relationship graph.
