I'm putting together a new setup for 100# rail fishing (also as a back-up kite setup) I'm considering the following set-up, but I'm a bit unsure if will do what I'm intending

Rod: Seeker OSP 2x4
Reel: Penn 20 VISX
Line: Fill with 100# hollow spectra

Thoughts?

Thanks in advance

I just typically use hollow. I like that I can splice in new line if/when it is damaged.

The hollow while in the air will have more drag.

For back up your set. The 20 can handle it only thing which is obvious would be line capacity, could get shy with a mean fish. But other than that I can't say much other on the set up, I guess maybe if you can keep your kite a little closer to the boat with a 20?

Line capacity would certainly be the issue. But for a back-up, I think it will do in a pinch. Hoping, and not hoping, not have to find out;-).

i'm hearing 700 yds 100 hollow on that reel. how much do you think you'd need? yeah a lot of line out for kite, but u reel in a lot in to get tight. spooled w/ 30 lb drag and 700 yds of line?

I checked with Basil on line capacity for the VISX 50, and he says ~900 yds of 130# Seaguar Threadlock. So, 700 yds of 100# is probably in the ball park for sure. I think that should be fine at 30# drag setting.
