Hey BD. Going to be tackling 1.5 day trips for the first time this season and would appreciate all the experienced guys Input on what I got and how I’m using it. I got the tackle covered (I think...), just would like to make sure my rods and reels are matched up well and if I should change anything up.

**20-25lb bait** LB super seeker 270h-8 w/ Trinidad 14a spooled with 40 ln power pro and 50 yd of 25 lb mono top shot

**30-40 lb bait** OC super seeker 6480 w/ talica 12ii spoiled with 65lb power pro and 25 yd of 40 lb mono top shot

**40lb jig stick** OC pinhead ulua w/ Trinidad 16a spooled with 65 lb powerpro and 100yd 40lb mono topshot

**60 lb bait/80-100 lb flatfall** LB super seeker 2x4 w/ talica 20ii spooled with 100lb Straight Izor braid to the brim

what y’all think? How important is a 50lb bait stick? Am I undergunned for what I’ll be seeing on my first trip? Any grips with my set up pairings? Please hit me with anything you can recommend or any gripes with what I got

So as of this week the fish are smaller 30 -50lb so you should be good. Make sure to have some 1/0 and 2/0 the sardines are smaller than normal I haven't heard anyone really pointing that out . The bait has been mixed with some small chovies and small macs, but the sardines are almost too small for a 2/0. Good luck

How big were the BFT? Were there lots of casualties because of mixed size schools or were they mostly schools of smaller models?

you are fine for this round of BFT. the biggest ones are about 150lbs and it seems the size are getting smaller. my talica 16 landed 2 about 110-130 pounders. no problem at all (26lbs drag ).

Also, I was fishing flatfall very deep (300ft+ and fast drifting, so easily 600+ft line out) and for my 1st fish, my spool was 1/3 donw before hitting the zone. Even that I did not feel I am running out of line or need to push to full drag.
