Hows it going everyone. We started off our day leaving Koolina at about 630am and head straight out. At about 8am around the 800 we take a knock down and a hook up to a small stripe marlin and get him into the boat in about 10min. He ended up weighing in at 88lbs with out head and guts. He hit the short center right in the bubble wash. The lure was a 7" aku blue bullet head with blue outside pink inside with cut down short skirts. We played the area for a little longer then started to head straight out again. About 10am and around the pinnacle area we take a knock down on the short corner and it came off on the run. It was either a mahi or a small marlin. The lure was a 7" strawberry cup face with blue outside orange yellow white inside. Around 11am outside the pinnacle we take a knock down on the other short corner only to have it take some line then come off. That lure was a blue popper head that i got as a gift from a friend in Maui blue silver outside with i forget the inside color. 20 seconds after that one came off the long rigger takes off and we end up getting a small short bill marlin. It weighed in a 40 something without head and guts. The lure was a 7" sky white bullet with blue outside orange yellow white inside. Right after i got done setting up the lines and just got done putting the fish in the box the short corner goes again. Looked to be a real good size bull mahi but after doing a couple flips it threw the hook. That lure was the same strawberry cup face. After that we played the outside a little more then we headed into Sierra. Lost some akus to sharks then finally got a good one to live bait. Dragged him for a hour with no action. Put some lures back out and hit to 40 all the way back to Koolina with no action.

Turned out to be a great day on the water. I guess this would be our best trip of the year even though its only our second time out.

    Morris,
You can keep mahi from jumping if you thumb your spool, put it free spool let some line out under control until it settle's down, take it out of free spool keep its head in the water and bring it in. From my experience mahi generally want to jump when their heads are close to the surface. Just in my humble opinion of course.
