Been waiting for a day that might be calm to go out and fish. Three weeks of watching a waiting. Most mornings the wind has been up to about 5 mph at the crack of dawn. Some days downhill, some days uphill. Rolled the dice today and got lucky.
Like this till about noon.
Perfect conditions for Rock Fish, so I thought. I always pull right to the spot, cut the motor to see the drift and tie on a gangion. In about three minutes I was 500 feet away from where I stopped. 2 lb. lead? Yes I did. lol
First drop a double of smalls.
Most Sand flees were even bigger than this
Shit, one more drop and a limit of Vermillion then I can go inside to try out the new Ambassador reel I picked up for Bassin; gonna be a GOOD DAY. Not so. Sure I kept the 2 lb lead for the next three drops for only Sand Flees, big ones. Sent them all back down today, just wasn’t in the mood to cook those and pick through bones. Now dropping down 16 ozs, I picked up one more Vermillion after an hour. Tried two more stones and just couldn’t get on the spots to get the Rockfish. All Dino-Dabs. “Sand Flees”
It's funny how you get suckered into fishing spots when you know you should have left long ago. “Hey Dimwit, move!” If the pole is a bending, I ain’t a leaving. Just one more Vermillion and you can try out the new reel. You can do it. NOT!
I did catch this Shark down deep. Put a nice bend in the pole, however I knew what it was by the way it felt coming up. She was about 3-4 feet long. If it is an eatable Shark I don’t care. Anyone want to guess what is is?
What is it?
Here is dinner. Bolan is pretty pissed off that that’s all I came back with after 5 hours on the water. I’ll bring her next time for luck.
Conditions: Current ripping downhill. Visibility in the 300 feet deep area was a solid 40 feet. Super clear. Temperatures ranges from 61-63 degrees.
Regardless of how pitiful my day sounded like as far as production, It was my most favorite day in the last three weeks. Hopefully things are going to break soon.
