Actually EBay owns PayPal……
I find that neither are that great. I bought one reel from them and it was defective. As I go back to my founded stand. I buy from my local small store where customer service and relationship exists.
Sorry for your troubles and thanks for the heads up.
You could be correct,
The only issue I see is that especially in slow pitch, by the nature of majority of the battle occurring within the reel…. The fish will test the quality of the reels. That is all.
Saltiga are great and the torques are good. But I would put the Ocea Jigger almost at the...
While I would love to disagree from a value stand point. Experience watching friends has proven to me that this is correct. I’ll stick to my Saltiga and Torques. They cost more up front. But I will not need to replace them.
by the way, Saltiga are marine brass as well. However they are...
Well… going against the grain here. And I like my Shimano reels a lot.
But for a more traditional slow pitch action and feedback, at the price. I think you would be hard pressed to find something better then a temple reef gravitate.
Black hole is a good choice and you can find deals at...
Oh some docs are experts at wait, wait, hmm should I wait? Let’s wait some more…. Eehhhhh haven’t waited enough.
What’s the best outcome for my patients… seems like common sense approach. Sadly common sense isn’t common anymore.
As a first timer on a LR in October. I find this info very helpful in preparing at least mentally. And analyzing what me and my son can do as newbies to “try” to minimize frustrations for the veterans on the Lr trip.
I didn’t take it in any negative. I just thought guys on here that travel might have personal insight. But I did call and they were helpful. All good. Thank you :)
Good evening :)
As i mentioned in prior thread. My son and I are going on our first LR Oct 2nd. Flying in from central FL. Spirit Of Adventure goes out of H&M landing. I think.
What hotel do you recommend for me to book a room for me and my son?
Thanks much
Up for sale is a very lightly used Daiwa Saltiga 4000H. Mint condition. Smooth as day 1. It was used by my dad. Who can not go out with us any longer. Very well cared and just sitting for past couple of years. It is filled with 20# Diamond braid.
Asking $600
Open to trade as well
Penn...
Up for sale is my dad’s heavy outfit. I got it for him for heavy bottom fishing when he could still go. Largest fish he caught on it was a #225 halibut in Alaska. It is in mint condition. Well cared for. Smooth as day 1. Cosmetics is 9-9.5/10. As seen in photos. Clamp assembly present...
My dad can no longer go on big trips. So the gear I have for him is not being used. The black Valiant just came back from Accurate this week for service. The other three last year and haven’t been used since. They have been lightly used. All are single speed. And cosmetically I would...
Great input
Thank you.
So at 80# braid it would not be a heavy enough outfit for night time jigging outfit for my son. Penn 12 ViSX would work better in that respect? Frame wise it should handle 100# but the question will be line capacity and retrieve rate for the jigging action…??
Sorry...
What line are you going to put on it?
I have the same reel, asked for advice but got silence 😂😂🤷🏽♂️ in my thread.

That’s great to onow
I live in Orlando. That makes it easy
Now if Mike would just respond to my text, it would be great :) 😂😂
I assume he is just a busy man.
Yes logistics seem overwhelming. But this could be a game changer.
I was truly thinking of driving back and forth. But that is a extra 5-7 days of PTO… which could be used for other trips 😂😂😂🤦🏽♂️😂
Good morning
My son and I are going oct2-10 on SOA for our first long range. Initially due to all the tackle and rugs, we were going to drive. But after speaking to a friend who owns a tackle store in Melbourne. He mentioned that a couple of customers ship their rods and reels to...
Very nice catch indeed.
What were the conditions in the water?
I find that I am not as productive in SPj once my presentation goes over 30 degrees. 30 degrees to vertical is best presentation in my experience. To get a 280gm jig down 750 feet, I assume the current wasn’t ripping?
Just trying...
I fish mostly in Florida and it’s bottom fishing for me. I go to Venice for Tuna and such. Having said that, I find that I barely use the spool lock when jigging in Florida and never when tuna fishing.
That is not a feature that I have to have.
The auto engage…. Yes that is a great feature...
A taller and narrow torque lever drag. Similar to the Fathom 60. I believe the current Torque 60 is a wider version of the 40. Or a smaller VISX, somtheing a little smaller and square then the 12 that I have already 😂😂😂
A high end large baitcaster for light offshore? A torque baitcaster???😂😂😂
Good evening
I picked up a fathom 60 2 speed on sale. The silver model. A couple of questions…:)
1) do you prefer to remove the top bar or leave it there? And why😂
2) how do you rig your 60? Could it serve as a light outfit reel for knife jigging?
Thanks 👍🏼
Ok, that helps.
First for the YT. Get the 25lb chum blocks not the 7lb. It will last longer. The YT have been line and boat shy lately. At least for us. Usually hanging 60-80 feet behind the boat. Not right next to the boat.
The 113 will work for the jigging at the humps. The tuna...
That’s a sick idea
Have you tried dremeling notches in the tubes. So they will hold the hook. Allow for more than one jig in a tube…??? Just a theory from looking.
Good evening
I fish the keys all the time. Can you share what your target species will be? And what / how are you going out to fish?
That will help with suggestions.
Gabe
We fished another day before heading back to Orlando
Caught some flag YT snapper
Lost some beauties ( I’m guessing mutton or smaller grouper) to the local tax collectors. They were out in full force.
I’m low on plate jerkers now😂😂😂😂
Caught a juvenile Jewfish ( I’m Israeli , sticking with...
I took my daughter out fishing out of key west. We went jigging in a few wrecks. Got cut off several times on the wreck. Three times the sharks helped us with the big mutton’s. They figured we didn’t need those muttons is my thought.
But we did manage to land a few good fish. We used a...
Actually yes
I found my old Penn Torque X200, That one was a "why did they stop making it?" Then I remembered, it weighs more then a brick lol.
As well as a Daiwa Saltiga 15, the very first one.
Also 3 Torsa... but I know those won't have parts... So yea:(
I can take photos when I get back...
Good evening :)
My daughter and I went fishing for the week. So I figured I would go through the storage unit in our house. I found two old reels that I started fishing with. They both seem in good mechanical shape still.
Pro Gear YT Special
And a
Pro Gear Albacore Special
I think the...
Question
As I am working on my set for our first trip. Do you not need a 20# abd or 30# outfit as well? This is only from what I have read so far. No real life experience.
Our trip is 8 day in Oct on SoA.
Everyone’s setups sound awesome👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
I am selling some of my dad’s unused gear. As he can no longer offshore fish, and some stuff he has never gotten around to using.
You can text me at 407-5nine0-six399
This is an unused Accurate Valiant 500, single speed.
It is loaded with 50# Ultracast
Mechanically 10/10
Cosmetically...

This is a used but never used Okuma Komodo 364 I believe. It has the standard handle, not the balanced power grip.

First is a Alutecnos 6V. It does not have a clamp option and we can’t find the reel cover.
The second is a Alutecnos 8V...
I would probably post this in fishing chit chat. You will get more responses there I think. I have never had a metaloid. I like my speedmaster 8ii a lot so far. Let’s see if thr Fathom over takes it.
Fishing here in central florida
I use the Viking Profish is super hard to beat. I’m not the most fit. But the shape is super stable, great lines for going into the surf and launching. Option for a nice livewell. Just a great all around true ocean kayak. I like it a lot more than the...
The Tuna at the humps are mainly Blackfin
5-10lb and bonito, so yes should be fine. 20lb braid not mono. Dolphin… unless you get into bull dolphin, I would say yes. But you can also chase it down.
Do keep a spare rod for the dolphin. Keep the first one hooked up in the water near the boat.
Pretty much a guarantee lol. If you go heavy you will not do well. The mutton snapper have PhD in flouro leader and the mangroves as well. In the keys ( I have a place in KCB) you need to go as light as possible.
Get baitmasters chum. 3-4 bags of 7lb or 1-2 of the 25lb. Load up on some 1/32...
I understand. And I’m not trying to cause an argument online. I can understand their method might be more precise. But the Saltiga spinner has their mag sealed bearings. I would not feel comfortable doing anything with that to help those bearings out. And it’s a “sealed” reel.
From sounds...
I had same issue. Saltiga spinner. Sealed reel supposedly. Bearing went bad after two trips to Sebastian jetty. Cost me $100 in service in first year. They said it wasn’t covered under warranty.
I’ve sent reels back to companies before. Having sent back for service or repair to Shimano...
Hi:)
I’m about to fill up my lever drags with mono topshot. What line do you like to top your reels up with?
I am thinking of Izorline XXX. Would the limp line be too soft for lever drag? It does great on my spinners. But how is it with lever drag / casting and such?
Is there a better...
A friend owns a tackle shop here
So I picked up from him yesterday a Silver TRQ15LD and a ViSX 30. He didn’t have the 20 in stock. The 30 will have to serve for me and my son as our 1 heaviest outfit to share. I want to leave space for lighter outfits as they will be likely more used. From...
I love my Talicas.
They work great for the Blackfin and larger snapper / grouper I catch. Blackfin not so big lol.
It was just an impression from reading another board based from Cali that Shimano’s stuff is “sub par” for long range. I have no experience yet and simply assumed at this...
Indeed
My 955 is going back on the inshore Rod to get ready for “Florida winter” 😂😂😂
The TRQ is getting spooled for grouper harvesting 💪🏼🙏🏼😂 being a optimist 😂😂😂😂
This is what happens when I finally have time and get to clean and re organize the garage. Found some of my older Penns. Man they were great reels back 10+ years ago.
Penn TRQ 200X
And a
Penn Internetional 955 (I missed this reel. Glad I found it. Flounder slaying machine)
And still...
Thank you.
I’m about to retire the Trini 40N. Parts are near impossible:(
I’ll look at the fathom and the Tesoro.
Okuma is not popular at all in FL
ShimanoLand here. Then Penn and Daiwa… lol
I’m really thinking about the Penn fathom two speeds with the high gear ration for wahoo / jig setups…?
Maybe only 1 20 setup for me and my son to share.
So stoked about building g memories with him like this.
Will also check out the Tesoro. Thanks:))
Apologies. I did not mean to come off arrogant in finances. I worked hard to become a doctor and at 50. It’s finally hitting a groove. But I also don’t want to waste money. I am trying to build a nest egg for my kids when the time comes. Just finished saving for their college so they won’t...
As far as servicing. I do it annually on my lever drags. I feel comfortable with that, myself. The spinning gear… not so much. But I might try on my van staals this year 😂😂😂😂😂🤯🤦🏽♂️😱
Yes I understand
All three were brand new Twinspins in the accurates. I had bail screws shear at 25lb of drag. The other two had the drag lock up on first runs and the line snapped. Reels were toast. All three were returned to accurate after that trip.
I have a Tern 2 and a Valiant 500N...
Orlando:)
Sebastian is awesome. That inlet takes a toll like a tax collector lol.
I fish Sebastian often. But I mostly go down to KCB and Key West these past few years. Blackfin all year long it seems and I enjoy bottom fishing for snapper / grouper.
I will say, and I know this is spinning gear. But my Stella and Twinpowers have never let me down. Vertical jig with them and plenty of 70-120# YFT in Panama and large Cubera as well.
Sadly not a lot of rooster:( yet :)
We have 3 Talica 12s and 2 20s that we use on my boat here in FL for trolling / live bait. But my impression from reading the boards and charkbait forum is that shimano Talica are considered junk for long range fishing reels. Mainly Avet / Penn / Okuma used on long range was my impression...
That’s cool
I think that is Alan Tani’s other trip
We went chose the 8. As it is our first time. Didn’t want to overdo it with my son. Not sure how he will take it.
Good day all.
Need some advice. My son and I are going on our first long range. We have fished for years FL waters. But have saved to finally go in October. 8 day trip I think for first time.
I’m trying to decide if to get a Penn 20 or a 30… Vs a Makaira 20.
I assume that the 20 is a...
