We hiked through the river bed up to the flagpole and “monument”?. I’ll look for the oven and go a little farther next trip.
There was a trashed car seat by one of the fire rings and some other stuff left at the sites. I don’t know why people bring, use for a trip and dump unless they figure...
Your boat looks good anchored up... but I think pretty much a floating log would look good there. lol
Smooth seas and tight lines (or full hoop nets)
Dream is an 18” Garmin radome (plug and play with my existing MFD for now) on standard Seaview 18” vertical mount with their optional hinge. Then the hinge would bolt to their standard stainless steel short mount that I need to have fabricated and welded to my 1” SS anchor light CC rail. Not...
Sunday morning Cabrillo launch after boat service.
Some dines from SP, wish Mike a Happy Thanksgiving and off to a rock I know off of Point Fermin.
Later than usual start to let the fog burn off ...
But it didn’t help😡
I anchored at Two Doors and counted my blessings.
Bottom and mid column...
Thanks for the report.
Deep for my anchor and rode. Were you drifting? I enjoy it (except when those 10%ers fly by, aimed right at you in the middle of the ocean and then veer off last minute with a 3’ wake ... OK, I feel better now) but some of my passengers hate it.🤣
Goodnight Chesty Puller, wherever you are.
Young marine is one of the range masters where I shoot. Glad to see they still make them like they used to. 👍😆
Uhrah!
ps I’ll take two more if you’re buying.🤣
It was a couple hundred for the weekend. They charge per person per night. Reserve America boat in camp sites.
We may book the Two Harbors camp ground next time and anchor Little Fisherman’s Cove. My fishing buddies liked the “wildlife” at Two Harbors better then Rippers. They both had foxes (my...
Just did our maiden voyage to Catalina.
We anchored for the day in Little Fisherman’s Cove and for the weekend in Ripper’s Cove.
Mooring field at Two Harbors and Avalon as we cruised past in the trip home.
Next winter project. Got a space reserved for the dedicated display.👍
First time to Catalina and we almost called it off in SP.
Went SLOW and steady with eyes out and listening to the VHF for ships yelling at me.😆
Glad we did cause it was a great weekend but definitely will feel safer for me...
Had one net that I’m sure was full. Just couldn’t find it.🤣
There were lots of shells left over from recent campers.
Next time but gotta buy a new net.😩
Been looking at Catalina long enough. Finally took a couple of friends camping at Rippers.
Good weather for crossing Friday and back Sunday.
Loaded all the gear and picked up sardines at SP around 10. Good dines until I accidentally hit the off switch and killed them. Got Friday and then chum.😆...
Gotta have an English major to figure this out. lol
So Saturday the 3rd of October at 6AM.
Can hoop nets be soaking prior, just no harvesting?
Thanks.
Smooth seas, tight lines and cold beers... and now full hoop nets.
Recreational lobster season opens at 6:00 a.m. on the Saturday preceding the first Wednesday in October and closes at 12:00 a.m. on the first Wednesday (night) after the 15th of March.
I’lol keep that in mind. I’m getting my 100 hour service done next week for Cat camping trip. Might be ready for day trip shake down.
What’s the name of that buffalo milk drink and what else is in it? I’m guessing you might know?😆
May have to be a buccaneer for a day. Rrrrrrrr
Noob to Catalina also. Going to Ripper’s B in a few weeks to camp with some buddies.
Pick up some bait at SP barge along with frozen squid.
From what I can tell, I should be good straight out and East to Gibraltar?
Is there a bait barge near Two Harbors?
Bring the lobster nets?
Any local...
Left around 6.
Picked up some nice sardines from SP and headed for a little Rockpile we know. 😉
Good morning catching but if anyone is telling stories about some fool who tried to move his boat to retrieve a dying Vermillin, wrapped his anchor line around the prop, had to trim up, etc. etc...
Sunday out of Cabrillo.
Foggy and overcast. 63-65 degrees.
Looked like a great morning to cross the channel to Ship Rock ... someday.
Stayed local.
Beer can picked up floating in the marina, not mine. I police the area when I’m done.
Spray paint can was floating near the Rockpile and Two Doors...
Me too. I remember when I thought my 18' was good enough and now 20' is not enough. Don't even wanna talk about a 17' CC like yours on a windy day like Saturday turned into.
Props to you. Like I told my wife, it may be small, but I know how to sail it, it works great and I try to take it out...
Same here. Had most of the line back but... I would’ve liked to see color at least but that’s why they call gambling, gambling and not winning. 😆 Amen to the wind. Saw the ‘caps and a lot of bits heading I. So joined them.
I’ll hail on 72(?) next time out. 👍
Sorry for the poor phone pics in advance. lol
Got out Saturday from Cabrillo.
SP had nice sardines.
Water is warming up. My temperature transducer is scum covered (not accurate) but it has been showing a rise and the signs are there.
A bunch of marks halfway up as well as the usual on the...
Picked up sardines at SP. Smooth seas and great weather.
First stop was at the Rockpile. Cudas liked the fly lined sardine.
Trolled the shelf to Portuguese Bend but no love. Got to the cove and had some bass shred my bait. Lost a rig but might have been seaweed... or that WSB. lol
Wind picked...
Water Temp - Don't know. Gotta clean that transom mounted transducer and trim tabs. 8-)
San Pedro had squid and cured sardines.
No Calicos were harmed in the filming … lol
The barracuda were from the week before.
You guys probably saw me out there bobbing around having a great day on the water...
Just don’t pull a noob, miss, forget all about your trolling lines, don’t realize you’re getting all fouled up, finally gaff it and realize what it just cost you in time and gear, having to tilt up, ...
Not me ... a friend of mine. 😆
Same here with the balloons on my last trip. Gaff and go if you can. Thank you.
ps Are the mussel farm buoys still there? Had a great sand bass spot about half way between the buoys and rigs in 125'. Boyz caught PB. Have fun with the boat and as always...
Smooth seas and tight lines.
Back at you. 👍
Heal the bay... and ocean... and rivers... oh you get it. Leave it cleaner than you found it or leave no trace.
Especially if VC are tracking you by your MT Marlboro packs and Aqua Velva ... sorry. I’m old and closest I got was walking Guard Duty around refugees at Pendleton. But...
San Pedro has sardines, no squid but I froze the leftovers from last time. 62 degrees and smooth seas. Hit some rocks for calico and a couple of mackerel. Gave the mac’s a tour of LB Shelf. No love.😆
Did gaff a bunch of Mylar. 😠
Had three in the trash bag when I thought I saw a jet ski? Turns...
First trip since Covid.
San Pedro has squid. I wore a mask, he didn’t (if you are interested). I tipped him 50%, I was so happy he had squid.👍
Water was 63-64 and weather started hazy but finished nice. Started at Two Doors and hit a couple before high tide at noon.
Bite died and I was ready...
Lola's crossed the rainbow bridge but I still feel your pain. My Franny in 2018. We give them a good home for as long as they need and they give us unconditional loyalty.
ps We rescued Taffy in 2019 and Dozer in 2020. Glad for the Corona walks. lol
Amen to that. Loved the pics of God's Country.
Been a long time since Convict and June, Gull and Silver and don't forget to hang a left and hit Tuolumne Meadows and Yosemite back country. lol
Yeah, that cruising in the dark is what had me worried. 3' of water??? Sphincter clenched??? lol
Gotta love the dolphin stories. I've been in since Flipper (sorry young guys)LOL.
Line was running through buoy loosely and I have an extra weight belt weight in the mesh bait pouch (I'm using the metal kind). No idea what took it. lol
pun intended...
RIP #8 and all those who lost their lives. Didn't know until I was on the water.
Launched out of Cabrillo on Sunday afternoon. Never been out on the water after sunset so figured I would just do a solo and get my feet wet.
Started out off Point Fermin near the reef but seeing...
Add "old marine" and I resemble that remark. 8-)
Virgin hooper here. I'll post my Sunday cherry popper report soon. O fer but RIP #8 ... always remember his "baby" years. lol
Figured I didn't have many days like this left this year so played "Hooky" again.
Made some macs off Palos Verde and drifted.
O for 3, broke off all three at different depth. Macs outsmarted me or the barn door I missed. lol
I did some clean up and, well, you know. A bad day fishing beats...
Surprisingly clean. One 2x4x about 3' on the way out of San Pedro. Turned around to pick up but amazing how easy to lose track when no one to lookout.
Sea was calm so the lobster buoys and kelp were easier to spot.
Got out Thursday from Cabrillo, picked up some nice sardines from SP and headed for the Mussell Farm I have been reading about.
Buoys are still up so we cruised around it. Started drifting in the mixed swells with 4oz and dine or frozen squid. Didn't seem to matter when we hit the right spot...
Short version.
Oldest daughter and friends enjoyed fireworks show at Cabrillo.
San Pedro had pretty good sardines the next morning.
Guys enjoyed drifting the close oil platform … but not too close. lol
Just need to learn how to set the hook better or maybe a better way to bait the hook? We nose...
The kids boarded and off loaded at the ramp after my antics and had two good days on the water. Weather was good/fair and we stayed in the bay Sunday. Man's got to know his limitations.
My blunders were solo in nature. Gotta focus better. lol
Brad at Half Moon Marina on Shelter Island had a guest slip for two nights and my son and family live in Santee so off I go for the "start of summer". lol
I've got a 2WD Tacoma so thanks to Wayne at West Coast Trailers. The tow from the valley to SD and back went smooth as silk or as smooth as...
Hi guys. Just wondering how close to the northern island you can get without getting into all the paperwork? Don't want any trouble. lol Going out of SD Bay over the holiday weekend. NO local knowledge... and it shows. rofl
... but they did not stay up for more then 15 seconds or so. Combination of Lack of Preparedness and beer drinking resulted in a missed opportunity. …
Missed opportunity maybe, but sounds pretty fun to me. lol
Sorry, I was just trying to steer the boat in that bumpy stuff and wasn't looking. lol
jk I actually peeked to see and the only difference I noticed were occasional vertical lines like static drifting across the screen. I didn't check the numbers but I'll pay more attention next time.
Hi guys.
Got out Sunday for my daughter's first trip on the fishing boat. She got some helm time (apologies to BadJuJu if we got too close at the wall) and did well but different than the old 18' bowrider.
Ladies cruise so LATE start but Nacho had squid!
Still didn't catch but that's not the...
Sorry, gotta figure this out. Low tech guy. lol
Just waned to add:
Water temp 57 and watch out for the floaters after all this rain. Lots of debris. Brought back a 6' chunk of branch for yard art and could have brought back a ton with a bigger boat. lol
Hi guys. Long time lurker, first time poster. Thanks for all the local knowledge I've been getting here. Made for a great day on the water. Just gotta get closer to fish than Nacho's sardines. Book learning ain't the same as OJT. lol
Took some buddies out of Davies launch ramp around 8 for...
