No, but having a gap between boats (casting distance) prevents this from happening. I highly doubt it was the captain of old glory that threw the iron. Boating is about safety. Drifting within casting distance of a boat with 30+ competitive anglers is not safe.
1/4 ounce bass jig with a swimbait flutters alot. Color of water, baitfish present, tidal conditions, water depth... fishing is fishing. Just because I am eating good one week off one presentation doesn't dictate what I do the next day, next spot, or next condition. I hope ot helps.
Went for a quick after work session. Tide was low incoming. A big shoal of giant spotfin croaker was feeding on? Maybe worms in the sand? I hooked up on a clear grub... good fight... thought it was a solid hali...giant butterfly ray... if I had blood worms...game on. No sandcrabs available.
I really dont care. But an old school... legend...said it was the best jig. 30 year later I found what he was talking about. I am sure the yellowtail will eat it up.
Sorry. Quick after work session at the local jetty inlet. A guy was there all day for one bite. Was about to quite and go home. Last cast on a small white bass jig, swim bait trailer, 8 pound test. Boom... first legal of 2019. Dinner by 6:30pm. 25"
Just talked to the construction supervisor in charge of the project. He said they killed over 1,000 legal halibut ... some over 30 pounds. Not to mention all the other fish they killed. It doesn't make sense or seem right at all.
We got scammed with this company flying in to Liberia, Costa Rica. It's amazing how much loving on real people who work for the company... changes the results.
I swam across the entrance a few weeks to relax in the Jacuzzi at paradise point resort. Got bumped by the scaley crock or gator. If you ever watched a cartoon fast forward swimming jumping up on docks running and swimming to get back to the boat. That's the story.
Found a new reef at negative tide. Firstcast after work...hit. Second cast keeper halibut. Tried for another hour. Nothing. Black red sparkles swim bait did the job. I tried a krockadile. Nothing.

One straighten hook. I brought a handful of grunion down. 1/2 ounce swim baits tipped with grunion. Also got a 22" halibut, after first big hook up, no more grunion. Every cast was bot with fresh halibut tipped swim baits.
Fished Cardiff at low tide. One came off the hook, three chew thru 40 pound flouro. I only got a visual on one fish estimated 80 pound thresher. I'm guessing all sharks, but I'll never know.
Cardiff in front of restaurants. 350 yds 20# Spectra, 200 ft 20# mono, 1 oz dropper loop to small piece of squid, short cast, instant bite, straight out to sea, never slowed down, or changed direction.
Not quite a fishing report, but I have been seeing spots of fish under the birds from Cardiff to Carlsbad all week from the beach. Before the MLPA I would be charging them in the kayak for a quick hookup. Low tide looks like the time. They might be outside the MLPA line?
Cut sargo on #25 leader to #15 spinning gear was a blast catching a bunch of leopard sharks. They would jump after being hooked. Anybody else have this happen? First time taking one for taco meat.
All fish on drop shot zoom fluke 6" in less than 10' of water. A honey hole between Del Mar and Carlsbad. I cant give excact coordinates. I have pulled 7 legals in the past two weeks with plenty lost.
I have been working on sport oats since I was 13. I am 37 now. I know how to fish tuna, and know all the banks, how to catch fish, and operate your boat. I have a 100 ton captain license. Isaiah
Success has three freezers on board. Fish are vacuum sealed and everyone gets to take home at least a 50# box of squid eating perfect a grade ahi. Fish get chilled to 33 degrees immediately in 3 ton fish hold
