    Best Phenix for Tranx 400

smx82mh. Its a rad combo. Favorite inshore set up, can cast plastics for calicos, smaller irons for yellows at the cornados, and small snipers for school size tuna. Its a rad combo, and i've landed all the above on it. Its rated 15-40. You gotta remember the Lexa 400 is wayyy bigger than the...

    single hooks for snipers

I usually run a swivel on mine. split ring to swivel to split ring to vmc hook. I had a few friends run without the swivel and they kept feeling as if they were getting bit but not sticking. The swivel allows the hook to move freely.

    Caivo Jigs

Caivo jigs have been insane. I picked up a few small mints at the FH last year and they got swallowed. They all swim and they can be used at a slower retrieve. I called the conapesca office and talked with someone there. He said that if you launch from U.S. Waters you technically do not need the import permit however some of the Mexican Navy do not always understand the rules completly and will hassle you. It's like $40 for a ten year permit. Its...

    JUL 21 - Skiff Life

Since you're so passionate about it you can always buy me a bigger boat. I grew up surfing and diving. I'm pretty decent at being able to read swell and wind and know how to deal with condition and read reports/buoys. You going to tell me not to surf big waves because I don't respect the ocean...

    JUL 21 - Skiff Life

Honestly no clue. But we left out of Dana landing, ran to the 182, ran up the backside of the ridge, came in south east towards La Jolla to get back to Dana and ended the day inbetweeen 1/4 and 1/2 of gas left.

    JUL 21 - Skiff Life

Just woke up from a long day yesterday. Headed out with my 17ft center console and two buddies. Plan was to work from the 182 to the 43 looking for paddies and foamers. once we got to the 182 water temps dropped the farther south we went going from 69 to 66. Plans changed and we opted to start...

    La Jolla 7-20

Thanks man! It was nice getting back out there. Might try venturing offshore tomorrow.
  134. _dayday

    La Jolla 7-20

We were directly off of Casa lifeguard tower. Probably around 60-70ft of water. We were just outside the kelp and then drifted into the lone stocks of kelp(not the thick bed). Yeah it was real flat and nice.
  135. _dayday

    La Jolla 7-20

Ran out to La jolla for a quick test run of the boat before work. Had a steady calico bite on the megabait. I was fishing it on a fast retrieve on the surface and was watching calico's blow up on it. Super fun fishing. After a few calico's my brother hooked something a bit bigger on his hookup...

7/18 Bluefin and Yellowfin. On the popper! AGAIN!!!

Yewwwwww!!!!!!! Got them again on the popper! Good stuff man.
  137. _dayday

    9 - 182 7/12

It definitely changes the action of the hook and the ability of it to move more freely and hook the fish.
  138. _dayday

    Nice surprise

    Yewwwww buddy! Good stuff man!
  139. _dayday

    9 - 182 7/12

Yeah I tried it like that the first time but I noticed that the eye of the hook was getting hung up on the split ring. I found the swivel idea from an older post on the fourm. Ill try to find it and upload the picture. EDIT: Found the old post. The first picture is of how i am guessing you had...

    Off shore sat 7/14/18

How did you guys do ?
  141. _dayday

    9 - 182 7/12

Split ring to swivel to split ring to ahi twist hook. I did some testing in the pool and found that when I rigged the hook to the split ring without the swivel, it didn’t allow for the hook to swim freely. The swivel made the difference.

    Report 7-12 9/302/226/Corner/182

Blue sardine 60g colt sniper and glow colored mega bait about the same size both got hit yesterday.
  143. _dayday

    Report 7-12 9/302/226/Corner/182

Cast directly into the foamer. Let it sink a few seconds then start reeling at a decent speed. went 1 for 3 with the sniper and mega bait. each cast got hooked up this way. They chewed off 2 lures.
  144. _dayday

    9 - 182 7/12

Did you have the single rigged directly to the split ring? Or did you have swivels hooked up as well?
  145. _dayday

    9 - 182 7/12

Brother headed out yesterday. They started at the north 9. They tried trolling with a few different dolphin but didnt have any luck. With all the seniers around they moved out to the 182. They came across a few foamers on the east ridge of the 182. couldnt get them to go on poppers but they went...

How to plan or a San Diego offshore trip, no Mexican waters

West. But for real, do research. You could probably head out without any knowledge and get fish at some point this year but it helps when you know what to look for. Get a good radio, good fishfinder/gps, get vessel assist. Figure out where you are going to plan on launching and do some test...

    Diving for Lobster in SD

If you diving scuba then something like a 7 or 8 mil should be good. If your going to freedive the best wetsuits you can buy are the open cell 2 piece suits. You can get a 5 mil and be fine all year. I use a 5 mil and rarely get cold diving for lobster at night. MakoSpearguns makes some great...

    New Rod and Reel

I'm looking to get a new rod and reel setup for this upcoming season. I currently have a 9ft fenwick with a torium 20 spooled with #65 braid with about 50 yards of #50 mono on top strictly for surface irons and poppers, my second rod/reel is a smaller 7 foot with a cardiff 200a spooled with #30...

What size braid would be good for a troller set up?
  164. _dayday

    Penn 113HLW

I have a Penn 113HLW that I found in my uncles garage that works good. There is a bit of a problem when it is in free spool where the clicker doesn't open all the way but I plan to work on it to get it going. I was wondering if I spooled this with either #80 braid or #100 braid if it would be...

Not the best day on the water. Conditions were super nice but we only were able to find one paddy holding and we picked up a smaller solo dorado. SO.MANY.BOATS. Pretty sure we've been respectful. All good I understand the anger though. We know we usually spook the fish after we pluck a few so we don't jump in on anyone else unless they are cool with it. Theres plenty fish to go around. We do our best to share and drop numbers on paddies when we move...
  176. _dayday

    8/11

The yellows were about 15 yards east of the paddy so pretty close to it. They were really mixed grade. I lined up on one about 15# but then saw a few bigger ones swim by. I was able to get a shot on one of the bigger ones. They scattered after we got 3.
  177. _dayday

    8/11

Yeah that was us! Got 2 yellows and a dorado off that paddy! thanks for letting us slide in.
  178. _dayday

    8/11

Launched out of MB. Headed to the north 9 and didnt see much. Headed out to the 182 and started seeing small kelp shy of the 182. Jumped in on a small paddy and pulled off 2 yellowtail and saw a few dorado but they were skiddish. Found a huge paddy not to long after. There was a boat working it...

    Heading out Tomorrow

Ended up heading north out of pt loma. Thanks to cody (longboard85) he dropped us the number on a paddy after he pulled some fish off of it. We were able to slide in and shoot a solid YT. We continued that way and came across a paddy with another boat on it. They said they were done and just...
